Job summary

CHRISTUS Children’s in San Antonio seeks a Registered Nurse Lactation Counselor to provide expert lactation support and education to breastfeeding families, coordinating care with the care team across inpatient and outpatient settings.

The role includes in-person visits, telephone follow-ups, staff training, and program development to improve breastfeeding outcomes and ensure continuity of lactation care after discharge.

Qualifications

• Must be a registered nurse with an active license in the state of employment.
• IBCLC certification required.
• In-depth lactation knowledge and breastfeeding management.
• Strong documentation and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

• Educate mothers and families about breastfeeding techniques and infant feeding cues.
• Develop and implement personalized lactation care plans.
• Provide outpatient lactation support and in-person visits as needed.
• Coordinate care with physicians, nurses, and other providers.
• Train hospital staff on lactation best practices and resources.
• Ensure continuity of lactation care after discharge.
