Job summary

Texas Children's Hospital seeks a Lactation Consultant (RN) to support mothers and infants during hospitalization, assessing, educating, implementing, and evaluating lactation care with a family-centered approach. The role requires excellent communication and teamwork, with the ability to float across main campus areas for continuous learning.

Qualifications

• RN qualification and active Texas license or eligibility
• Nursing experience of at least 9 months
• CPR/BLS from AHA
• Preferred: BSN and IBCLC
• Ability to educate mothers, adolescents and adults in lactation care

Responsibilities

• Educates mothers on initiating and maintaining lactation during hospitalization
• Collaborates with healthcare team to update care plans
• Documents observations and recommendations in patient records
• Acts as a lactation resource across departments
• Coordinates lactation services with team to adjust for census and workflow
• Supports maternal medications review and compatibility with breast milk feeding
• Participates in orientation and mentoring of new staff in Lactation and Milk Bank areas
• Contributes to departmental performance improvement activities
