Job summary

Must-Have: Specialty experience or nationally recognized certificate or proof of specialty training program completion preferred; BSN, MSN, or currently enrolled in RN-BSN program preferred.

Description: The nurse's practice is guided by the Code of Ethics.Professional behavior, including interactions with co-workers, is essential.Staff must display values and treat everyone respectfully.High risk patients must be identified, and intervention from ancillary departments should be initiated.Decisions and actions on behalf of patients are determined in an ethical manner.Patient confidentiality must be maintained within legal and regulatory parameters.Acting as a patient advocate is critical, as is assisting patients in developing skills to advocate for themselves.Care should be delivered in a nonjudgmental and nondiscriminatory manner that preserves patient autonomy, dignity, and rights.The nursing process must be utilized and assessed via direct observation, peer reviews, audits, and documentation including:

  • Assessment with successful completion of Physical Assessment validation.
  • Diagnosis.
  • Planning.
  • Outcome identification.
  • Implementation.
  • Evaluation.The nurse uses results from quality of care and performance improvement activities to initiate changes in nursing practice.Clinical data should be collected to monitor the quality and effectiveness of nursing care.Aspects of care important for quality monitoring must be identified, and recommendations formulated to improve nursing practice or patient outcomes.Participation is expected in the development and implementation of policies, procedures, and practice guidelines to improve quality of care and nursing practice.Participation on interdisciplinary teams evaluating clinical practice or health services related to patient care is required.Involvement in quality improvement studies includes being engaged in task forces or committees.Suggestions for improving outcomes based on unit study results should be implemented.Independently identifying problematic areas and recommending solutions is essential.Sharing findings from studies and audits with others encourages collective improvement.Collaboration and communication with patients, families, and healthcare providers are important.Peer review and observation should be utilized, and documentation monitored for appropriate referrals.Formulating the plan of care must involve patients in decisions related to their care and delivery of services.Referrals, including provisions for continuity of care, should be made as needed.
