Job summary

Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services is hiring an RN II Shift Supervisor for Western State Hospital in Staunton, VA. The role oversees nursing care on Elm, Pine, and Hickory units, provides direct patient care, and participates in an interdisciplinary team to maintain a safe, therapeutic environment.

Minimum qualifications include an active RN license in Virginia and RN II status, with the Nursing Department ensuring round-the-clock care.

Qualifications

• Must have a Current RN license that is eligible to be utilized in the Commonwealth of Virginia
• Must currently hold a minimum of a RN II position
• Ability to delegate and supervise nursing staff
• Ability to participate in interdisciplinary team
• Ability to assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care
• Effective communication (written, verbal and sign)
• Ability to work overtime due to staffing emergencies in a 24-hour 7 day per week psychiatric hospital

Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care in a safe, therapeutic environment for a specific patient population in a 24/7 psychiatric hospital
• Provide quality care as part of an interdisciplinary team
• Maintain accountability in a safe, secure, and therapeutic environment
• Create healthy interpersonal interactions on adult acute admissions, geriatric, and extended rehabilitation units
• Observe and report interventions, treatments, behaviors, and wellbeing
• Document and communicate
• Use specialized training for promoting mental wellness recovery
