Description:This position is for an ICU RN in a 14-bed medical intensive care unit.The unit provides care for patients with a variety of conditions such as respiratory failure, renal failure, sepsis, GI bleed, DKA, hypotension, hypertension, stroke, pneumonia, cancer, ARDS, and overdoses.Chronic ventilators and chronic tracheostomy patients are common on the unit.The RN to patient ratio is typically 1:1 to 1:2, with the possibility of 1:3 in rare cases.Certified nursing assistants assist with vital signs, glucose checks, bathing, feeding, ambulating, turning, hourly rounding, and transportation of patients.There is a unit secretary available during key hours, with a house-wide call secretary during the night shift.The nursing team has access to respiratory therapists, hospitalists, and intensivists 24/7.Telemetry monitoring is managed by a central telemetry unit.The electronic medical record system used is EPIC, with various medical equipment available for patient care.The department maintains a collaborative and busy environment where teamwork is essential.
