Job summary

Mercy Springfield is seeking an RN for the 4D Cardiac Surg Intermediate ICU, a 28-bed, high-acuity unit. You will deliver compassionate care to post-operative cardiothoracic, vascular, and medically complex patients, using the nursing process and coordinating with interdepartmental teams.

Qualifications

Utilizes the nursing process to provide patient care. Maintains professional accountability for provision of patient care for the assigned patients. Evaluates the overall effectiveness of care provided by other direct care givers. Coordinates the patient care in conjunction with other departments. Maintains patient rights and confidentiality of patient information. Performs duties and responsibilities in a manner consistent with our mission, values, and Mercy Service Standards. Nurse Residency Available: Mercy Springfield offers a year-long Nurse Residency Program tailored to the specialty area in which each nurse is hired. All graduate nurses participate in the program, along with select experienced nurses based on their individual experience and professional development needs.

4D Cardiac Surg Intermediate: 4D is an intermediate ICU otherwise called a Progressive Care Unit. The unit includes a 28 bed fully monitored unit. We provide high acuity care to critically ill post-operative cardiothoracic, vascular patients, and medical overflow. Common therapies seen on 4D are chest tubes management, lytic therapy, antidysrhythmic, low dose vasopressors, Bipap and high flow oxygen systems, insulin drips, and precedex. 4D works closely with Neuro Trauma PCU and ICUs for opportunities to cross train between departments. We are part of the Critical Care Cluster, which includes all ICUs and PCUs. 4D offers you the chance to deliver compassionate care in a setting that is busy, team oriented, and fulfilling. Learning opportunities are endless and team members are dedicated to mentoring. Career path programs are available to transition into ICU units with an 18-month track.

Qualifications

Education

Graduated from a school of nursing (Associate's Degree, Diploma, or BSN).

Licensure

Is personally responsible for obtaining, and maintaining, a current RN license within the hiring state and/or compact licensure in which nursing duties are performed and must meet all state board of nursing requirements.

Certifications

• Basic Life Support certification through the American Heart Association or successful completion of course within 30 days of hire.
• Additional certifications may be required based on the position/unit hired to, or acquisition of certification within department required timeframe.

Physical Requirements

• Position requires the ability to push, pull, and/or lift 50 lbs on a regular basis.
• Position requires prolonged standing and walking during each shift.
• Position requires the ability to grip, reach, bend, kneel, twist, and squat to perform duties.

Our Mercy health system was founded by the Sisters of Mercy in 1986. But our heritage goes back more than 195 years. It began with an Irish woman named Catherine McAuley, who was determined to help women and children in Dublin experiencing poverty. Though Catherine had a modest upbringing, she received an unexpected inheritance that allowed her to fulfill that dream. In 1827, she opened the first House of Mercy in Dublin, intending to teach skills to women and educate children. Many volunteers came to help. A few years later, Catherine founded the Sisters of Mercy, one of the first religious orders whose Sisters were free to walk among the poor and visit them in their homes. In 1843, the Sisters of Mercy came to the United States. In 1856, they traveled to St. Louis. In the years to come, they would establish hospitals throughout the Midwest.
