Job summary

Henry Ford Health is seeking an RN First Assist to join the Operating Room team at Henry Ford Macomb Hospital. The role supports surgeons intraoperatively, provides pre- and postoperative patient care, and helps maintain an efficient, safe OR environment in a fast-paced setting.

Qualifications

• Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in Michigan.
• Completion of an RN First Assist (RNFA) program or CSFA training from a CAAHEP program.
• Certification as CRNFA from CCI within one year of employment.

Responsibilities

• Assist surgeons intraoperatively, anticipating needs and ensuring appropriate instrumentation for each procedure.
• Support preoperative and postoperative patient care, addressing patient needs throughout the surgical process.
• Collaborate with the surgical team to maintain a safe and efficient operating room environment.
• Perform scrub, circulate, and turnover duties as assigned when not functioning as the first assistant.
• Maintain certification and stay updated on best practices in surgical nursing.

Role Overview

As an RN First Assist (RNFA), you will work under the supervision of the operating room surgeon to assist in performing safe surgical procedures. Collaborating with the healthcare team, you’ll ensure optimal patient care before, during, and after surgery. Your expertise will directly support surgeons, enhance team efficiency, and improve patient outcomes in a fast-paced surgical setting.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

• Current Michigan RN license.
• Certification as a CRNFA from the Competency and Credentialing Institute (CCI) within one year of employment.
• 3 years of experience as a registered nurse with completion of an RNFA program or CSFA training from a CAAHEP program.
• Current BLS certification.

Preferred Qualifications

• CNOR certification.
• Experience in a high-acuity surgical setting.
