The Emergency Department at Hartford Hospital, a tertiary care teaching hospital, is seeking both new graduate and experienced nurses. To foster the growth of each new RN to the department, a unique mentorship program has been developed to support the transition into our department during each RN’s first year here. Our mentorship program includes experienced nurses who offer their time to all of our newest team members. Through the mentorship program, we’ve successfully created professional colleague relationships that contribute to each RN’s individual success within our department.

In addition to being one of the busiest Emergency Departments in Connecticut, HHED is also an accredited Level 1 Trauma Center, chest pain center and comprehensive stroke center, treating patients of the highest acuity in the region. Comprised of 109 beds, with the addition of a new 19 bed ED Observation Unit, HHED treats an average of 145,000 patients annually.

Are you a dynamic mental health professional in search of a challenging and rewarding ED crisis position? Housed within the largest Level I Trauma Emergency Department in the state of Connecticut, is a 22-bed behavioral health crisis unit, waiting for you!

Join a dynamic and collaborative team of inter-disciplinary team members, including nurses, psychiatrists, medical doctors, social workers, and ancillary personnel as we provide emergency care to our most vulnerable mental health population.

In this fast-paced environment you’ll work with like-minded professionals who value quality mental health care and advocacy for the mental health population. Our ideal candidate would have at least one year of inpatient or behavioral crisis nursing experience, and is looking to take on the next challenge in their career. Collaborating with the Institute of Living at Hartford Hospital, we are able to provide many resources and educational opportunities for your growth. Nurse Educators embedded within the Emergency Department are actively involved in the crisis area. CPI certification provided during orientation. Collaborative efforts with the Purple Light Project and Hartford HealthCare’s state-wide Behavioral Health Network, advocating in concert for the mental health population.

Our nurses are renowned for thinking and acting quickly to meet the varying needs of our patients, as well as being highly skilled, flexible and resilient; with the ability to work in a team environment to provide the highest level of satisfaction to our staff and our patients.
