Description:The Registered Nurse (RN) is a licensed professional who coordinates patient care delivery by the healthcare team.

Using the nursing process, the RN assesses the patient, identifies nursing diagnoses based on responses to health problems, develops and implements an individualized plan of care, and evaluates the patient's response.

The RN promotes safe passage for patients by using knowledge of patient needs and the healthcare environment to assist patients in transitioning through the healthcare encounter without preventable complications or delays.

The RN delegates interventions to healthcare personnel based on the nursing practice act, each patient's condition, and the competencies of the employee.

The RN is utilized in hospital inpatient and outpatient departments with 24x7 staffing, including departments with on-call staffing on the off shifts.

Essential functions include conducting accurate clinical assessments according to practice standards and prioritizing patient and family needs.

Developing, implementing and evaluating the nursing plan of care is crucial.

The RN modifies plans to meet clinical outcomes as necessary.

The RN supports evidence-based practice changes through research utilization and experiential learning.

Creating a compassionate, supportive, safe, and therapeutic environment for patients and families is paramount.

The RN develops therapeutic relationships with patients and families and manages both emotional and physical pain to promote comfort and healing.

Recognizing and incorporating unique differences, such as culture, spiritual beliefs, socioeconomic status, and values into an individualized plan of care is essential.

Preserving and protecting the confidentiality, autonomy, dignity, and rights of patients and families is a fundamental responsibility.

The RN facilitates learning for patients, families, and staff, integrating appropriate education throughout the continuum of care.
