Job summary

MEDIKO is seeking a compassionate Registered Nurse (RN) to deliver direct patient care at the Roanoke City Adult Detention Center. You will conduct health assessments, administer medications, respond to emergencies, and support safe, high-quality healthcare for underserved populations.

The ideal candidate has an active RN license, 1–3 years of nursing experience, and CPR/BLS certification. The role requires strong assessment, documentation, and teamwork within a multidisciplinary environment.

Qualifications

• Current, active, unrestricted RN license in applicable state
• High School Diploma or GED required
• Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Nursing preferred
• 1-3 years nursing experience preferred
• Experience in correctional healthcare or related clinical settings preferred
• Strong clinical assessment, critical thinking, documentation, and communication skills
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
• Current CPR/BLS certification required (AHA or Red Cross approved)

Responsibilities

• Conduct intake screenings, health assessments, and ongoing patient evaluations
• Develop, implement, and monitor individualized patient care plans
• Administer medications, treatments, and interventions as prescribed
• Provide care for patients with acute illnesses, chronic conditions, or behavioral health needs
• Respond to sick calls, medical emergencies, and urgent healthcare situations
• Document patient assessments, treatments, and outcomes in EMR
• Collaborate with physicians, mental health professionals, and facility staff
• Educate patients on disease prevention, treatment plans, and health management
• Ensure compliance with nursing standards and facility policies
• Support quality improvement initiatives and maintain a safe healthcare environment
• Mentor and guide nursing staff toward best clinical practices
