Job summary

SSM Health Saint Louis University Hospital in Saint Louis, MO is seeking a Registered Nurse to provide comprehensive nursing care across the patient’s hospital stay, including assessment, planning, intervention, education, and documentation.

The RN will work with interdisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality, patient-centered care in an acute inpatient setting, perform admissions and post‑op assessments, and support discharge planning while upholding infection-control and safety protocols.

Qualifications

  • Licensed as a Registered Nurse in Missouri.
  • Experience in inpatient acute care settings.
  • Ability to perform comprehensive nursing assessments and develop care plans.
  • Strong communication and documentation skills.

Responsibilities

  • Perform age-appropriate admission, transfer, and post-op assessments; document findings accurately.
  • Develop and evaluate individualized care plans based on assessment data, diagnoses, lab results, and physician orders.
  • Implement nursing interventions, administer medications, monitor IV fluids and parenteral nutrition, and coordinate referrals or consultations as needed.
  • Provide patient and family education, discharge planning, and communication of care plans, including accurate hand-off reports.
  • Monitor patient status, recognize changes, and respond promptly to variations in condition; report significant changes to the appropriate clinician.
  • Apply infection-control and safety protocols, maintain a clean and safe environment, and dispose of hazardous waste properly.
  • Assist in restraint care, pain management, and abuse assessment when indicated.
  • Maintain professional competence through continuing education, participation in committees, and adherence to policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrate professionalism, collaborative teamwork, and ethical practice in all interactions with patients, families, and co-workers.
  • Contribute to performance improvement and evidence-based practice initiatives within the unit and hospital.
  • Provide age-appropriate care for adult and geriatric patients, applying developmental knowledge to assessment and communication.
  • Use resources efficiently, document chargeable supplies, and support unit workflow and quality indicators.
