Job summary

Cleveland Clinic Indian River Hospital in Florida seeks a dedicated Registered Nurse to join the 2E Observation Unit (Clinical Decision Unit).

The RN will provide direct care, monitor patients, administer medications, and coordinate discharge planning within a compassionate, high‑quality care team on the nights 6:45 PM to 7:15 AM.

Qualifications

  • Graduate from accredited nursing program (Diploma, ADN or BSN).
  • Current state RN licensure.
  • BLS certification through AHA or Red Cross.
  • One year of acute care RN experience or licensed military RN experience.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct nursing care.
  • Implement, monitor, update and revise patient care plans.
  • Monitor, record, and communicate patients’ condition.
  • Administer prescribed medications and treatments.
  • Carry out physician and nursing orders.
  • Assess and coordinate patients’ discharge needs.

The 2E Observation Unit, also known as the Clinical Decision Unit, at Indian River Hospital cares for patients requiring further observation before being readmitted or returning home. By joining this team as an RN, you will assist fellow caregivers and healthcare staff in providing a comfortable space for patients to recover and regain their strength. While in this position, you will gain hands‑on experience with a diverse patient population and can explore further education or professional development initiatives.

A caregiver in this position works nights from 6:45PM – 7:15AM.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide direct nursing care.
  • Implement, monitor, evaluate, update and revise patient care plans.
  • Monitor, record, document and communicate patients’ conditions.
  • Administer prescribed medications and treatments.
  • Note and carry out physician and nursing orders.
  • Assess and coordinate patients’ discharge needs.
  • Educate patients and their families.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Graduate from an accredited school of Professional Nursing (Diploma, ADN or BSN program)
  • Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross
  • One year of current acute care RN experience OR licensed military RN experience
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing (BSN)
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross. If you do not hold this certification, you will need to obtain it within 90 days of hire
Physical Requirements
  • Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity, and eye‑hand coordination.
  • Requires standing and walking for extended periods of time.
  • Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
  • Requires working under stressful conditions and irregular hours.
  • Exposure to communicable diseases and/or body fluids.
  • Medium Work – Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  • Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.
Personal Protective Equipment
  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
