Valley Hope of Norton in Norton, KS is seeking a Charge Nurse (RN) to lead nursing staff and support the Nursing Director in day-to-day operations. The role emphasizes hands-on patient care, supervision, and program compliance.

Responsibilities include staff orientation, training, performance feedback, case management support, and emergency care. The position offers a mission-driven environment with opportunities to contribute to addiction treatment outcomes.

Qualifications

• RN degree and active nursing license in applicable state.
• 4+ years of clinical nursing experience with progressive responsibilities.
• One or more years in charge-nurse or supervisory role preferred.
• CPR certification required; experience in addiction treatment preferred.
• Substance abuse treatment experience and/or CARN is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Supervise nursing staff under Nursing Director; support policies and procedures.
• Assist with orientation, training, and performance feedback for staff.
• Provide medical care support including case management and inpatient services.
• Assist during medical emergencies following established protocols.
• Participate in performance improvement activities to enhance nursing care quality.
• Assist with drug administration, treatments, and test administration as allowed by law.
• Develop staff competencies to meet standards of practice and accrediting guidelines.

Education

Associate’s degree in nursing

RN license to practice in state

4+ years clinical nursing care

4+ years progressive work with 1+ year charge-nurse

CPR certification

Substance abuse treatment experience preferred

Certified Addictions Registered Nurse (CARN) preferred

Nurses typically work with patients from admission to discharge, providing supportive medical care over 30-45 days of treatment, offering a unique treatment approach, and rewarding work experience with hands on help for patients to heal and recover in real time.

Education & Experience

• Associate’s degree in nursing.
• Licensed as a Registered Nurse to practice in the state of employment.
• Four (4) plus years of clinical nursing care work experience.
• Four (4) plus years of progressive work and relevant industry experience including one (1) plus years of charge-nurse experience.
• Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification.
• Work experience in substance abuse treatment industry is preferred.
• Certified Addictions Registered Nurse (CARN) is preferred.

Compensation

• Minimum starting pay: $47/hr

Shift Differentials

• Night: Base pay + an additional $4.25/hr
• Weekend Night: Base pay + an additional $4.75/hr

Job Summary

• Provides support as needed to the Nursing Director in day-to-day supervision of the nursing staff to ensure that activities are carried out in accordance with Valley Hope’s operating policies, procedures, and standards.
• Assists the Nursing Director in supervising nursing staff including orientation and training, monitoring the quality of treatment documents, providing support during the annual review/goal setting process, as well as providing routine performance feedback and mentoring in support of staff development.
• Provides support to the Nursing Director as needed for medical care including case management and inpatient medical care treatment services.
• Provides assistance as needed to ensure proper and adequate treatment provided during emergencies; follows established policies and procedures for all medical emergencies (i.e., convulsions, suicides, Delirium Tremens, etc.)
• Participates in facility performance improvement activities with an emphasis on medical services and improving nursing care quality. Collaborates with facility management staff to identify and implement improvement activities across the facility.
• Assists with the security, control, and administration of drugs, medications, treatments, and tests as allowed by law.
• Assists the Nursing Director in building the skills and competencies of the nursing staff as needed to meet minimum requirements as specified by customary standards of nursing practice, external accrediting agency guidelines, and internal organizational guidelines.

• Residential treatment facility setting; requires walking throughout the facility.
