Qualifications

• Associates Degree in Nursing or higher.
• Active Georgia RN licensure.

• 6 months to 1 year nursing experience or training; preferred.

Responsibilities

• Ensures quality, safe care for each patient using rounds and CQI reports.
• Liaises between physician, nursing staff, patient and family; ensures orders carried out promptly.
• Determines staffing needs with Nurse Manager; assigns staff by acuity and workload.
• Maintains shift coverage and on-call status; oversees after-hours staffing.
• Communicates shift activity and continuity of care through reports.
• Investigates complaints with Nurse Manager; documents actions taken.
• Floats to all nursing areas and maintains master keys as per policy.
• Attends meetings and updates staff on information from meetings.
• Obtains medications from pharmacy after hours following policy.
• Secures outside doors after hours and logs door checks.
• Oversees clinical and non-clinical departments after hours, holidays and weekends.

Responsibilities

• Ensures that quality, safe care is given to each patient. Uses patient rounds and CQI reports to determine quality care is being given. Acts as a liaison between patient, physician, and family.
• Acts as a liaison between physician and nursing personnel. Effectiveness is evidenced when the physician’s orders are carried out promptly and accurately, communications are clear as documented.
• In conjunction with Nurse Manager, determines staffing needs, prepares patient assignments, and bases these assignments on acuity levels, workload, and competency/skill level of available staff. Places staff “on call” or “called off” in the nursing areas as needed. Adjusts nursing staff during shift to accommodate the fluctuating patient load.
• Provides comprehensive information of shift activity to incoming staff and nurse managers through written and/or oral reports to ensure continuity of care.
• Reviews, investigates, and follows up on complaints, grievances or emergencies with patients, families, staff and physicians as warranted in conjunction with Nurse Manager.
• Floats to all nursing areas as needed and maintains master keys as outlined in policy.
• Attends scheduled meetings and keeps staff updated on information obtained at the meeting.
• Obtains medication from pharmacy when the pharmacy is closed and follows established policy and procedure in the procurement of the same.
• Ensures that the outside doors are secured after hours and logs the door checks in the appropriate areas.
• Oversees clinical and non-clinical departments after hours, holiday and weekends and times when the department manager is not present during emergency situations and when assistance is needed.

Qualifications

• Associates Degree in Nursing.
• Current Georgia RN licensure.
• Current CPR, ACLS and PALS certification within 1 year of hire.
• Six months to one-year experience or training; preferred.
• The equivalent combination of education and experience.
