The Night House Supervisor serves as the on-site nursing and administrative leader during assigned night hours and provides hospital-wide operational oversight when department managers and senior nursing leadership are absent. The House Supervisor coordinates safe patient care, staffing, patient flow, admissions, and transfers; supports staff during clinical and operational emergencies; and serves as the primary after-hours escalation point. The position provides direction to clinical staff within established policy, scope of practice, and organizational authority and escalates significant clinical, staffing, safety, security, facility, or operational concerns to the appropriate department leader, administrator, CNO, or CEO. The House Supervisor functions as a professional role model and promotes high-quality care consistent with standards of practice, organizational policy, and applicable DNV, Federal, State, and Local requirements.

  • 1. Hospital-wide oversight: Provides visible administrative and nursing oversight of active hospital departments during the night shift and serves as the on-site leadership resource.
  • 2. Patient safety and clinical escalation: Responds to significant changes in patient condition, codes, rapid-response situations, falls, medication or treatment concerns, and other urgent clinical events; assists staff and ensures appropriate provider and leadership notification.
  • 3. Staffing and assignments: Reviews census, acuity, skill mix, and staffing needs; receives call-ins; assists with replacement coverage; and reallocates available staff when appropriate to support safe care.
  • 4. Patient flow: Coordinates or assists with admissions, bed placement, transfers, discharges, and movement of patients between care areas in collaboration with providers and clinical staff.
  • 5. After-hours administrative response: Serves as the primary on-site escalation point for operational issues after hours and contacts the appropriate manager, CNO, administrator, CEO, or other leader when an issue exceeds assigned authority or requires executive notification.
  • 6. Rounding: Conducts purposeful rounds in active patient-care areas, including the Emergency Department and inpatient areas, to assess staffing, patient-care concerns, safety, environment, supplies, and operational needs.
  • 7. Emergency preparedness: Assists with the hospital response to emergencies, disasters, utility failures, security events, severe weather, evacuation, surge conditions, and other events in accordance with hospital plans and policies.
  • 8. Patient/family concerns: Addresses patient and family complaints or service concerns that arise during the shift when possible and ensure appropriate documentation and follow-up referral.
  • 9. Staff support and conflict management: Provides coaching, direction, and support to staff; addresses immediate performance, conduct, or conflict concerns and refers matters requiring formal follow-up to the appropriate manager/CNO.
  • 10. Quality and compliance: Promotes compliance with policies, infection prevention practices, patient safety standards, regulatory requirements, and quality-improvement activities; reports identified risks or trends.
  • 11. Direct patient care: Provides direct nursing assistance when necessary based on patient-care needs and staffing circumstances while maintaining appropriate hospital-wide supervisory oversight.
  • 12. Communication and handoff: Maintains appropriate shift documentation and provides a concise handoff to day leadership regarding significant clinical events, staffing issues, admissions/transfers, complaints, safety events, unresolved concerns, and follow-up needs.
  • 13. Incident reporting: Ensures significant events are documented and reported through the appropriate hospital reporting process and that immediate safety actions are taken when indicated.
Qualifications
  • Graduate of an accredited registered nursing program; Associate degree required, Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Current, unrestricted Georgia Registered Nurse license.
  • Current BLS, ACLS, and PALS certification. Additional certifications as required by organizational policy.
  • Minimum of three years of recent clinical nursing experience; supervisory, charge nurse, emergency, critical care, or acute-care leadership experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated clinical judgment, leadership, communication, conflict-resolution, and organizational skills.
