Job Summary
The Registered Nurse in the Cath Lab is responsible for providing skilled nursing care during cardiovascular procedures including left and right heart catheterizations, peripheral interventions, carotid stents, AAAs, TAVR, and device implants. Key functions include administering moderate sedation, monitoring patient status throughout procedures, and assisting with setup and breakdown of the cath lab environment. The role demands strong clinical expertise, patient monitoring skills, and collaboration with the interdisciplinary team to ensure safe and effective patient care.
Responsibilities
- Administer moderate sedation to patients undergoing catheterization and interventional procedures.
- Monitor patients continuously during procedures to assess vital signs and respond to changes in condition.
- Assist with preparation and breakdown of the cath lab before and after procedures.
- Support the interventional cardiology team during a variety of cardiovascular procedures including left heart cath, right heart cath, peripheral interventions, carotid stents, AAAs, TAVR, and device implants.
- Collaborate effectively with physicians, technologists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure high quality patient care.
- Document patient care activities and procedural details accurately and timely.
Required Skills & Certifications
- Active Registered Nurse license in the state of Illinois.
- Minimum of 2 years experience in a Cath Lab or cardiovascular nursing setting.
- Proficiency in administering moderate sedation and patient monitoring during invasive procedures.
- Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills.
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
- Bachelor's degree in Nursing or related field preferred.
Preferred Skills & Certifications
- Experience with a broad range of cardiovascular procedures including TAVR and device implants.
- Advanced cardiovascular life support (ACLS) certification.
- Prior experience in a fast-paced interventional or critical care environment.
Special Considerations
- On-call responsibilities include one weekday per week and one weekend every four weeks.
- Work environment is a specialized cath lab requiring adherence to strict sterile techniques and safety protocols.
- Must be able to work rotating days off throughout the month.
Scheduling
- Four 10-hour day shifts per week, typically from 7:00 AM to 5:30 PM.
- Rotating days off throughout the month to accommodate call schedules.
