Job Description Summary

The RN Coordinator works closely with oncology team to coordinate patient care and ensure smooth transitions across all phases of therapy while consistently modeling excellence in patient care and contributing to unit leadership.

The RN Coordinator is responsible for coordinating clinical care in the outpatient oncology setting, with the goal of promoting safety, patient and staff satisfaction, and quality outcomes. This role partners with a specific multidisciplinary disease team to support care delivery across the full continuum during the patient’s time at MUSC. Coordinate all clinical care within all clinics to maximize safety, patient and co-worker satisfaction and quality outcomes.

Job Description

Summary: The specialty coordinator provides individualized, goal-directed patient care to families and patients at the proficient level utilizing the principles and practices of the nursing process; delivers safe and effective care and interacts with other members of the health care team to achieve desired results. The proficient nurse consistently models excellence in patient care and contributes to unit leadership.

  • Applying the nursing process (Assessment, Diagnosis, Planning, Implementation, Evaluation) to coordinate care in the clinic setting.
  • Managing patient orders, EPIC in-basket communication, patient education, and care planning.
  • Ensuring follow-up and specialty appointments are scheduled.
  • Collaborating with the RN Navigator to support care across departments and treatment types (Radiation Oncology, Surgery, Chemotherapy, Palliative Care, Survivorship) Working closely with providers, APPs, CMAs, LPNs, RNs, pharmacists, and other team members to ensure coordinated, patient-centered care during clinic visits.

Minimum Education and Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in nursing required and three years related nursing experience. Licensure as a registered nurse by the South Carolina Board of Nursing or a compact state. Some positions require certification as a generalist in a related specialty area by the American Nurses Association (ANA).
