Job summary

Valley Springs Behavioral Health Hospital in Holyoke, MA, is seeking an Assessment Specialist - RN for full-time night shifts (3 x 12-hour shifts, 7:00 pm–7:30 am, every other weekend, holiday rotation). The RN will perform intake assessments, screen for emergencies, and coordinate referrals in a behavioral health environment.

The ideal candidate holds an active RN license, has psychiatric healthcare experience, and demonstrates strong assessment and collaboration with reviewing bodies.

Qualifications

• Current state RN license.
• Graduate from an accredited program of professional nursing.
• Current unencumbered license to practice by the State Board of Nursing.
• Minimum of one year of experience in a psychiatric healthcare setting; chemical dependency, dual diagnosis, psychiatric, geriatric patients preferred.
• Experience in patient assessments, family motivations, treatment planning and communication with external review organizations or comparable entities.

Responsibilities

• Receive inquiry calls and facilitate timely face-to-face assessments or direct callers to appropriate community resources.
• Within a behavioral health setting, conduct or ensure comprehensive assessments by qualified mental health professionals.
• Screen for medical and behavioral emergencies, provide high-quality therapeutic care.
• Assist patients in accessing appropriate treatment for substance abuse, dual diagnosis, or psychiatric disorders.
