Job summary

Valley Springs Behavioral Health Hospital, operated jointly with Lifepoint Behavioral Health and Baystate Health, seeks an Assessment Specialist - RN to perform assessments, triage inquiries, and coordinate access to treatment in a behavioral health setting.

The role requires an active State RN license, at least one year in psychiatric care, and strong communication with patients and external review partners. Shifts are 7:00 pm–7:30 am, with weekend and holiday rotation.

Qualifications

• Current RN license in the state.
• Minimum of 1 year in a psychiatric healthcare setting.
• Experience in patient assessments and treatment planning.

Responsibilities

• Receive inquiry calls and facilitate timely face-to-face assessments.
• Conduct or coordinate comprehensive psychiatric assessments.
• Screen for medical/behavioral emergencies and guide to services.
• Assist patients in accessing appropriate psychiatric or substance-use treatment.

Valley Springs Behavioral Health Hospital offers compassionate, high-quality inpatient and outpatient mental health and co‑occurring treatment for teens, adults, and seniors. We provide a full‑range of evidence‑based medical and clinical services in a state‑of‑the‑art healing environment.Programs include inpatient mental health and co‑occurring treatment, Partial Hospitalization Programs (PHP), and Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP).

How you'll contribute

The Assessment Specialist - RN is responsible for receiving inquiry calls and facilitating timely face‑to‑face assessments or directing callers to appropriate community resources. Working within a behavioral health setting, the RN conducts or ensures comprehensive assessments by qualified mental health professionals for individuals presenting with psychiatric, emotional, or substance use concerns. The role includes screening for medical and behavioral emergencies, providing high‑quality therapeutic care, and assisting patients in accessing appropriate treatment for substance abuse, dual diagnosis, or psychiatric disorders.

What we're looking for

Applicants should have a current state RN license.

• Graduate from an accredited program of professional nursing or relevant state licensure required


• Current unencumbered license to practice by the State Board of Nursing


• A minimum of one (1) year of experience in a psychiatric healthcare setting working with chemical dependency, dual diagnosis, psychiatric, geriatric patients preferred.


• Experience in patient assessments, family motivations, treatment planning and communication with external review organizations or comparable entities
