Job summary

Lewis-Gale Medical Center in Salem, VA, part of Lewis-Gale Regional Health System, is hiring an RN for the Ambulatory Surgery Unit. The role focuses on preoperative assessment, patient education, and perioperative care within a collaborative operating room team.

Qualifications

• RN license required (state or compact)
• BCLS or ACLS? BCLS Instructor must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
• Associate or Bachelors degree in nursing

Responsibilities

• Evaluate patients prior to surgery
• Provide patient and family education surrounding the procedure and peri-operative process
• Prepare patients including IV therapy, preoperative meds, and surgical site verification
• Participate in surgical site verification and universal protocols
• Recognize and respond to patient emergencies
• Deliver high-quality, patient-centered care and participate in continuous improvement initiatives
• Be an integral member of a dynamic interdisciplinary team
• Apply nursing process, critical thinking and leadership to deliver safe nursing care
• Monitor patient condition and document changes and care provided
• Educate patients and families about medical condition, treatment and follow-up measures
