As a Progressive Care (Acute Care Step-down) Registered Nurse at Presbyterian Hospital, you’ll coordinate nursing care—including direct patient care, patient/family education, and transitions of care. New graduates have the opportunity to participate in our mandatory residency program, which includes monthly seminars led by the Nurse Residency Team, peer‑to‑peer debriefing sessions, support groups/mentoring, and rounding. The Nurse Residency Program is an added benefit designed to support your transition into practice.
Progressive Care units include Acute Medical Step‑Down, Cardiac Step‑Down, and Neuro Step‑Down. In Progressive Care, there are opportunities for RNs to gain leadership experience through Preceptor, Clinical Practice Leader, Relief Charge and Quality Improvement roles.
Acute Medical Step‑Down: Provides care for high‑acuity patients within a culture that promotes teamwork, professionalism, and mutual respect.
Cardiac Step‑Down: Comprised of 2 units totaling 50 beds. This unit provides patient‑focused, specialized care to patients requiring telemetry monitoring for various cardiovascular disorders, including cardiac arrhythmias and heart failure.
Neuro Step‑Down: A dedicated team of high‑performing nurses providing exceptional patient care within the 29‑bed unit, specialized for patients recovering from neurosurgery or neurological injuries—including psych patients. Joint Commission‑Accredited Primary Step‑Down.
