Job summary

UnityPoint Health – Des Moines is seeking a Procedure Nurse to support the Endoscopy Team in performing advanced endoscopic procedures for pulmonary and GI disciplines. You will assist physicians, manage instruments, and monitor patients during anesthesia or moderate sedation for both inpatient and outpatient cases.

The role requires RN licensure in Iowa and at least 12 months of acute RN experience; new graduates may enter the RN Residency program.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
• Current licensure in good standing to practice as a Registered Nurse in Iowa.

Responsibilities

• Assesses patient and family needs, providing teaching and referrals for continuity of care.
• Develops an individualized plan of care with patient/family and health care team.
• Completes documentation promptly to maintain accurate legal records of care.
• Delivers high-quality nursing care using the nursing process per unit policies and standards.
• Uses a holistic approach considering biopsychosocial, spiritual, educational, safety, and related criteria for age-specific patients.
• Delegates and guides other health care team members within scope of practice and accountability for the plan of care.
• Applies critical thinking to develop nursing interventions with responsibility for patient conditions.
• Chooses age-appropriate teaching strategies for patients and families.

Overview

Join our Endoscopy Team as a Procedure Nurse!

In this position you will be involved in performing advanced Endoscopic procedures for both pulmonary and GI disciplines. You will be assisting the physician by performing interventions with different instruments or monitoring the patient during anesthesia or moderate sedation procedures. These advanced Endoscopic procedures are performed on outpatients as well as inpatients from each UPH-DM facility.

Schedule- FullTime: Monday–Friday, Four 9 hour day shifts with varying start times between 6am-7am; Call Required-weeknight 3 times per month; 1 weekend every 6-8 weeks, 1 call holiday per year.

UnityPoint Health – Des Moines is offering a $20,000 sign-on bonus for full-time eligible RNs (Including Residents) hired or offered into acute inpatient roles between April 1 and October 31, 2026, paid in milestone-based installments.

Relocation Assistance: Up to $10,000 for full-time offers when relocating more than 50 miles.

Responsibilities

• Assesses the needs of patients and families, providing appropriate teaching and making the necessary referrals to provide continuity of care.
• Develops an individual plan of care using a collaborative approach with the patient/family and health care team.
• Promptly completes documentation to assure an accurate legal record of patient’s care.
• Delivers high quality care utilizing the nursing process while demonstrating knowledge and clinical skills of the specialty required on assigned unit in accordance with established policies, procedures and standards of care.
• Utilizes holistic approach (considering biopsychosocial, spiritual, educational, safety, and related criteria) appropriate to the age of the patients and families served in the assigned service area.
• Delegates and provides direction for other healthcare team members within their scope of practice and holds them accountable for their involvement in the plan of care.
• Utilizes critical thinking in developing nursing interventions while maintaining responsibility and accountability for the knowledge of conditions of assigned patients.
• Assess and chooses teaching strategies appropriate to the patient’s and their families’ age specific needs, culture, gender, readiness to learn and level of comprehension.
• Consults appropriate resources within the hospital to provide specialized education.
• Demonstrates knowledge that patient and workplace safety is a priority by preventing errors, accidents and infections and reporting potential or actual concerns immediately.

Qualifications

Education:

• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing or IA Board of Nursing approved nursing program.

License(s)/Certification(s):

• Current licensure in good standing to practice as a Registered Nurse in Iowa

Experience:

• Minimum of twelve months acute RN experience.
  • All newly licensed RNs or RNs with less than 12 months of acute RN experience and who are interested in this department or any other Acute RN role within UnityPoint Health – Des Moines, are required to participate in the RN Residency program.
