THE UNIT

The Allegheny General 9A Oncology Unit is a 32 bed telemetry unit specializing in the comprehensive care of patients with oncology‑related diagnoses. The unit’s dedicated team provides a wide range of services, including chemotherapy administration, palliative care, hospice, and management of general medical needs that may arise alongside the patient’s cancer diagnosis. Nurses on 9A receive specialized chemotherapy training and certification to ensure the safe and effective delivery of these treatments. The unit and staff are committed to providing compassionate and holistic care to patients and their families throughout their cancer journey. In addition, the unit is equipped to handle overflow patients from general medicine, surgery, and telemetry, ensuring they receive attentive monitoring and personalized care.

Job Summary

Responsible and accountable for a designated patient population for the purpose of providing care based upon enactment of the nursing process.

Responsibilities
  • Demonstrate clinical assessment skills and care planning skills.
  • Provide safe and effective care for the age population served according to regulatory requirements.
  • Professionally direct and manage the activities of the patient care delivery by the team members.
  • Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team for the plan of care from admission through discharge.
  • Assess learning needs of patient and family and provide education based on age, culture and willingness to learn.
Qualifications
  • Current State of PA RN licensure OR Current multi-state licensure through the enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact (eNLC).
