Job summary

OhioHealth is seeking a Laboratory Supervisor in Phlebotomy to lead a team, oversee technical operations, and direct staffing and productivity. The role requires ensuring regulatory compliance, quality control, and excellent customer service across the department.

The position supports ongoing education, collaborates with the division manager, and provides coaching while maintaining cost-effective, high-quality lab services. Night shift, 40 hours weekly.

Qualifications

  • Associate's Degree (Required).
  • 3–5 years experience in a patient care or clinical setting.

Job Description Summary

This position provides supervision for a laboratory section(s)of a clinical laboratory.

Responsibilities and Duties
30% TECHNICAL OPERATIONS
  • Supervises and directs departmental technical operations and human resources.
  • Promotes strong customer service orientation with a zero tolerance for inappropriate or suboptimal performance.
  • Acts as interdepartmental liaison resolving operational and technical problems within department and between laboratory and other departments as they arise.
  • Investigates specimen problems, service complaints and any delays in performance of procedures.
  • Acts as consult to physicians and other hospital departments, assumes management functions in concert with the division manager.
  • Develops, evaluates and implements new procedures when necessary to improve function, productivity and service.
  • Assists division manager in assuring all regulatory standards CAP, CLIA, ASC p are met within the area.
  • Maintains appropriate documents and manuals, reviewing and revising as necessary while maintaining optimal cost effective delivery of lab services.
25% STAFFING ASSIGNMENTS AND PRODUCTIVITY
  • Assures optimal efficiency, effectiveness, and safety within the area. Monitors workflow, staffing assignments and productivity; recommends and implement change to improve both.
  • Provides training and schedules in-services for staff to meet regulatory compliance, to understand changing environments and support continuing education needs.
20% STAFF DEVELOPMENT
  • Enables and promotes employee development; provides coaching; counsels when appropriate.
  • Maintains effective relationship with peers; promotes good inter-employee relationships.
  • Leads by example according to mission, vision and values of OhioHealth.
  • Provides technical orientation and instruction of new personnel. Provides ongoing instruction to current personnel in procedures, techniques, safety and organization of work.
  • Participates in continuing education programs in both technical and managerial areas with emphasis on new technology and human relation skills.
20% May perform responsibilities of Med Techs and or Lab Specialists as determined by site requirements.
  • Including but not limited to testing, method validation, customer service, QA, continuing education.
5% Performs other misc. duties as assigned.
