Job summary

Campbell Transportation Company is seeking a Deckhand to support tow-building and breaking operations on river vessels along the Gulf division. The role emphasizes safety of crew, vessel, cargo, and environment, with duties including rigging, securing barges, and basic maintenance.

Ideal candidates will have a High School Diploma or GED, TWIC, and be able to pass pre-employment and DOT testing. Physical endurance for long shifts and outdoor conditions is required.

Qualifications

  • Must follow all Campbell Transportation Company policies and safety regulations.
  • Possess and maintain a TWIC (Transportation Worker's Identification Card).
  • Pass pre-employment drug test and comply with random DOT testing.

Responsibilities

  • Build and break tow effectively.
  • Inspect and report safety conditions affecting crew or cargo.
  • Handle rigging during tow building and landing work with proper tools.
  • Secure barges with cables and lines while being environmentally conscious.
  • Perform basic vessel maintenance, cleaning, and engine room tasks.
  • Communicate clearly on a VHF radio and follow Captain instructions.
  • Use safety equipment per company policy.
  • Maintain personal hygiene and assist crew in keeping public spaces clean.
  • Perform firefighting, man overboard and abandon ship duties as needed.
