Job summary

Parker Towing Company is hiring Deckhands in Northport, Alabama. As a Deckhand, you will be responsible for tasks such as building and breaking tows and maintaining safety on vessels. Requirements include being at least 18 years old, possessing a high school diploma or GED, and having a valid driver’s license. You will work on a schedule of 20 days on and 10 days off, endure varying weather conditions, and must pass Coast Guard physical and drug requirements. Competitive benefits are included.

Parker Towing Company Hiring Deckhands

Parker Towing Company is currently hiring for deckhands. Parker Towing offers a steersman program, tankerman program, and senior chief engineering program. All those selected for these programs start out as deckhands. For this position, the schedule consists of 20 days on, 10 days off. This position requires you to be away from home for extended periods of time. You can live anywhere and work on the river. Primary Responsibilities of a Deckhand:

• Build and break tow
• Line handling
• Assist with going through locks
• Tying off vessels at fleets and docks
• Perform minor towboat and barge maintenance
• Maintain barge in tow
• Keep boat and barges safe and clean
• Household chores: cleaning, sweeping, mopping, dish washing, etc., keeping exterior of boat clean

Requirements:

• Must be 18 years of age or older
• Must have a high school diploma or GEDMust have a valid/current drivers license, NO EXCEPTIONS
• Must be able to pass United States Coast Guard physical requirements including but not limited to lifting, pushing, pulling, carrying heavy equipment, maintain balance and navigate uneven surfaces, climbing up and down ladders and stairways.
• Must be able to work outside in all weather conditions (extreme heat, extreme cold, rain, snow, etc.)
• Must be able to work required schedule
• Must be able to work various weekends and holidays
• Must be able to pass United States Coast Guard drug screen
• Must be able to understand and complete verbal and written orders
• Must have or be able to obtain a TWIC card (Transportation Worker Identification Credential)
