Job summary

Middlesex Water Company in New Jersey seeks a Risk Services professional to support risk management across the Enterprise under the guidance of the Risk Services Director. This role covers claim investigation within the Business Insurance Program, Real Estate and Property Rights, and enterprise-wide risk initiatives.

You will review risk reports, coordinate investigations with Operations, manage claims with insurers, and help improve programs to reduce liability.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Maintain a valid NJ driver’s license.
  • At least five years of experience in Transmission and Distribution operations, maintenance, construction and supervision, desired.
  • Ability to read, understand and use GIS, CC&B, WAM, MWM, construction plans and distribution system maps, desired.
  • Availiability for emergency call-in and on-call assignments, as needed.
  • Must be able to work outdoors on a year-round basis.
  • Be able to work independently, with little supervision.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Acrobat Pro.
  • Experience with databases.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and review all Risk Reports including, but not limited to, review of completeness, root cause analysis, and corrective actions.
  • Coordinates investigations and remedial corrective actions with supervisory and/or Dispatch personnel in Operations.
  • Manage and coordinate claims with insurance company adjusters.
  • Manage and develop various schedules to track claims and litigation.
  • Assist in management and coordination of after-hour inquiries regarding claims, as needed.
  • Assist with inspection of Enterprise properties, right-of-ways and easements for potential hazards, damage and insurance-related requirements.
  • Assist with the day-to-day operations of the Real Estate Property Right Program.
  • Manage and coordinate area of responsibility on the Risk Department Balanced Scorecard.
  • Manage and coordinate Schedule of Action Items for the Enterprise.
  • Attend pre-construction, project and progress meetings as needed Enterprise-wide.
  • Recommends modifications to existing programs and procedures to improve system reliability and reduce liability.
  • Contribute to the overall safety awareness throughout the Enterprise.
  • Assist in contingency planning and response coordination of emergency situations.
  • Communicate with customers, contractors, attorneys, municipalities, the general public, etc., in a responsible and courteous manner.
  • Work on projects/other duties as assigned by the Risk Services Director.
  • Assist in all areas of the Risk Department when personnel on vacation or leave.

Job Summary:

Under the direction of the Risk Services Director, this position is responsible for providing risk management services and support with the essential functions under Business Insurance Program (Claim Investigation); Real Estate and Property Rights Program; and Risk Services throughout the Middlesex Water Company Enterprise.

Work Performed:
Business Insurance Program (Claim Investigation Program) – Essential Functions:

Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to climb ladders, enter/exit confined spaces, enter/exit excavations.
  • Able to work outdoors in inclement weather.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, sit for extended periods of time.
  • This position requires operation of a computer and other office equipment such as printers, copiers, scanners and calculators.
  • Must have the ability to visually inspect and review hard copy and online documents.
  • Must be able to communicate, detect, converse with, discern, convey, express oneself, discuss and exchange information.
  • Must be able to occasionally move about inside the office and use stairs to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.
  • Ability to lift and carry 25 pounds unassisted and at least 50-75 pounds assisted.
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50 percent of the time.

Salary Range: $55,355 – $83,034 annually, based on experience and qualifications.
