Qualifications

  • Pursuing a bachelor’s degree in risk management, finance, business administration, accounting, construction management, economics, data analysis, or related field.
  • Junior, Senior, or Graduate-level student preferred.
  • Internship requires prior coursework or experience related to risk management, business, finance, insurance, accounting, construction, or operations.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Exposure to data analysis, reporting, research, or project coordination is a plus.
  • Interest in corporate risk management, insurance, compliance, construction operations, or business strategy.
  • Ability to work in an office environment and complete a 12-week summer internship.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with identifying, assessing, and documenting organizational risks, including risk maps and tracking tools.
  • Support risk management reports, dashboards, trackers, and presentations for leadership and operations.
  • Collaborate with multiple teams to gather information and support risk mitigation initiatives.
  • Support contractor risk and compliance programs, including subcontractor data entry and tracking.
  • Assist with insurance activities, including organizing information for programs, audits, renewals.
  • Research industry trends and best practices, presenting findings to the Risk Management team.
  • Help develop training materials, SOPs, communications, audits, and special projects.

Risk Management Intern

Our Summer internship program is a full-time, 12-week summer position from May through August 2027. As an intern, you'll receive an exciting opportunity to acquire relevant work experience and work alongside our best and brightest. You will be paid competitively and get to network with our top leaders. Your experience will include an orientation, job walks, and a community service event, just to name a few.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Assist with identifying, assessing, and documenting organizational risks, including supporting the development and maintenance of risk maps and related tracking tools.
  • Support the development and maintenance of Risk Management reports, dashboards, project and initiative trackers, and presentations for leadership and operational teams.
  • Collaborate with Risk Management, Operations, Safety, Human Resources, Accounting, IT, and other teams to gather information and support risk mitigation initiatives and ongoing projects.
  • Support contractor risk and compliance programs, including subcontractor data entry, enrollment, status tracking, and follow-up within Prequalify, Asuretify, Controlled Insurance Program (CIP/OCIP), and other applicable risk management systems.
  • Assist with insurance and Risk Management activities, including organizing and maintaining information used for insurance programs, compliance activities, audits, renewals, and other Risk Management initiatives.
  • Conduct research on industry trends, risk management best practices, insurance topics, and construction-related risks while presenting findings and recommendations to the Risk Management team.
  • Support the development of training materials, standard operating procedures, internal communications, audits, and special projects designed to strengthen the organization’s risk management culture.
Education:
  • Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in risk management, Finance, Business Administration, Accounting, Construction Management, Economics, Data Analysis, or a related field.
  • Junior, Senior, or Graduate-level student preferred.
Experience:
  • Previous internships, academic project, leadership experience, or coursework related to risk management, business, finance, insurance, accounting, construction, or operations is preferred.
  • Interest in corporate risk management, insurance, compliance, construction operations, or business strategy.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Exposure to data analysis, reporting, research, or project coordination through coursework or extracurricular activities is a plus.
Primary responsibilities would include:
  • Supporting the annual corporate insurance renewal
  • Supporting the annual insurance audit following our 7/31 policy year-end
  • Enrolling subcontractors in the appropriate risk and insurance systems and assisting with status tracking and follow-up
  • Helping develop and maintain a system for tracking Risk Management projects and initiatives following the FY risk mapping exercise
  • Helping coordinate FY27's Safety Summit
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills with an ability to identify trends and potential risks.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills with the ability to interact professionally with employees at all levels of the organization.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple assignments and deadlines.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel, with the ability to learn new software and business systems quickly.
  • Demonstrated initiative, curiosity, and willingness to learn about construction operations, risk management practices, and insurance programs.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive business information with professionalism and discretion.
Physical and/or Travel Demands:
  • Work is primarily performed in an office environment with frequent use of a computer, keyboard, telephone, and other standard office equipment.
  • Ability to review detailed documents, reports, contracts, and spreadsheets on a computer screen.
  • Occasional visits to regional offices, project sites, training events, or company meetings may be required.
  • May involve extended periods of sitting while conducting research, analysis, data entry, and project-related activities.
  • This internship is designed to provide meaningful exposure to risk management within a construction-focused organization and offers opportunities to develop business, analytical, and professional skills while contributing to real-world risk management initiatives.
Benefits and Compensation:
  • The range for this position has been established at $19to $23 and is U.S. Engineering's good faith and reasonable estimate at the time of the posting. The compensation offered to the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty, and training.

Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis without requiring future sponsorship for employment visa status.
