ProAssurance specializes in healthcare professional liability, products liability for medical technology and life sciences, legal professional liability, and workers' compensation insurance. This position supports the podiatry and chiropractic segments of our medical professional liability line of business and can be fully remote within the Eastern and Central time zones.

Position Overview

The Risk Management Consultant develops and implements risk management services, including educational programs, aimed at mitigating risk for Insureds. They provide risk management advice related to medical professional liability for our internal and external customers. The role involves executing innovative and traditional risk management activities, initiatives, and projects, supporting claims, underwriting, data analytics, and developing risk reduction strategies and products, including online and helpline services, educational activities, assessments, and publications.

Key Responsibilities
  1. 40% - Field and research inquiries from policyholders and departments related to professional liability risks, ensuring excellent response times and resolution. Refer insureds to appropriate parties when necessary.
  2. 30% - Coordinate and manage action plans based on claims data, loss trends, and risk management trends to develop mitigation programs. Create risk management content for marketing and communication based on claims data and emergent topics.
  3. 15% - Collaborate with marketing, claims, and the PICA medical board to execute, evaluate, and monitor the results of the Annual Baseline Self-Assessment (ABSA).
  4. 10% - Support claims, retention, business development, underwriting, and marketing teams in serving Insureds and potential clients.
  5. 5% - Perform other duties as assigned, including staying updated on laws and regulations impacting risk management.
  6. - Leverage risk expertise and malpractice insurance knowledge to provide a marketing advantage.
  7. - Demonstrate strong leadership and professionalism, maintaining confidentiality.
  8. - Support management initiatives through words and actions.
  9. - Contribute to the development and monitoring of a risk management budget.
  10. - Up to 20% travel, including overnight.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, nursing, or a healthcare-related field.
  • Clinical background with appropriate designation (e.g., RN, LPN).
  • Minimum five years of risk management experience in healthcare.
  • Risk management certification preferred; knowledge in quality improvement and patient safety required.
  • Ability to develop operational guidelines, research data, and make recommendations.
  • Ability to handle complex tasks, manage multiple priorities, and produce presentations and educational programs.
  • Excellent analytical, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Effective public speaking and interaction skills at all organizational levels.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Teams, SharePoint, and Zoom.
