Job summary

Qualifications

Summary/Objective

The Risk & Claims Manager will serve as the internal subject matter expert for and will be responsible for handling Workers’ Compensation, automobile and general liability insurance claims involving the Company commencing from the date of the incident through resolution. The Candidate preferably has extensive experience handling such claims in blue-collar industries such as the industrial service, oilfield or construction sectors. The Candidate will work closely with the Company’s executives in the Legal, Safety, Human Resources and Finance departments and with external Company resources such as defense counsel, Broker, carriers and Third Party Administrator/adjusters on matters related to Workers’ Compensation, insured automobile and general liability claims. The position also involves reporting to the General Counsel to support claims and related litigation as well as subpoena responses. A key function of this role is managing the full life cycle of all Worker’s Compensation, automobile and general liability insurance claims with the Broker and/or carrier and tracking and following up with relevant parties on medical care, work status, defense counsel reports, reserves, claim files, Stowers demands and adjuster activity from inception through claim resolution.

The candidate will provide information and coverage analysis to the General Counsel and other executives in connection with the foregoing and in related litigation. The candidate will report directly to the General Counsel. Exceptional organizational skills are required.

Key Responsibilities

May include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Reporting directly to the General Counsel and maintaining organized, detailed reports regarding all insurance claims.
  • Providing periodic reports to the General Counsel, executives and relevant department heads on all active claims according to defined schedule.
  • Working collaboratively with Risk, Legal, Safety, Finance and Human Resources teams.
  • Serving as the interface between Company department heads and external Company resources such as defense counsel, Broker, carriers and Third Party Administrator/adjusters regarding Workers’ Compensation, insured automobile and general liability claims.
  • Submitting claims to the Broker and/or carrier, detailed follow up with relevant operations team members and tracking the same, including medical care, work status, defense counsel reports, reserves, files and adjuster activity from inception through claim resolution.
  • Monitoring Safety-incident documentation with the Safety department and coordinating with the General Counsel on serious incidents.
  • Managing Certificates of Insurance during insurance renewal, including maintaining a list of priority requests, communicating with the Broker and distributing same to the Operations team.
  • Coordinating with the Broker, operations team and customers to handle insurance endorsements and maintaining a detailed list of same.
  • Supporting General Counsel with invoicing and tracking. Responding to General Counsel’s information requests and perform such additional job duties as requested by the General Counsel.
  • Advising on coverage and claims processes, maintaining familiarity with all insurance coverage.
  • Coding and submitting monthly insurance deductible invoices.
  • Reviewing loss-runs from the Third-Party Administrator for open and closed claims in each case while maintaining a claims listing and ensuring consistency of the loss runs with our records.
  • Supporting the General Counsel on complex claims, lawsuits, document discovery, Subpoenas, general requests and claims documentation in connection with claims, lawsuits and coverage issues.
  • Coordinating with Safety, Human Resources and Operations on return-to-work, light-duty placement and claim resolution status.
  • Coordinating with Broker on customer and vendor agreements to confirm compliance with insurance requirements.
  • Serving as a trusted advisor to senior management to develop and execute Risk & Claim strategies that support business objectives.
  • Maintaining in-depth knowledge of Risk & Claims trends and compliance requirements of applicable federal, state and local statutes and regulations.
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
  • WCP, CWCP, CWC, and/or ARM certifications preferred. Bachelor’s degree or relevant work experience in lieu.
  • 5+ years (preferably 10 years) of Workers’ Compensation claims handling experience with a strong focus in the blue-collar industries such as the industrial, oilfield or construction sectors.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and manage high workloads with tight deadlines.
  • Exceptional organizational skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to document complex cases clearly.
  • Demonstrated ability to leverage technology (Microsoft Office Suite, advanced skills in Excel) and legal documentation systems.
  • Experience and expertise in supporting multi-state operations.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to build trust and credibility with employees at all levels.
Physical Requirements
  • Must be willing and capable in performing computer-based tasks while sitting or standing at a computer-based workstation for prolonged periods of time.
  • Must be able to make general decisions requiring judgment and perform activities requiring sustained concentration.
