Job summary

TRC, Member of WSP, seeks a PhD Senior Toxicologist to lead the EH&S, Engineering, Construction, and Remediation (ECR) team in Lowell and Boston, MA. Overview

We are seeking a highly motivated PhD Senior Toxicologist to join our EH&S, Engineering, Construction, and Remediation (ECR) team operating out of Lowell and Boston, MA. This position will lead a team of risk assessors that works closely with Project Managers and other technical leads performing ecological and human health risk assessments, environmental remedial planning, and other environmental project related activities, including participation in the development of sampling plans and risk-based closure strategies, and the formulation of institutional (land use) controls. We are looking for an individual with attention to detail, a willingness to mentor others, and a desire to be part of a high performing team.

Responsibilities
  • Lead human health and ecological risk assessment team in performing data evaluation, exposure assessments, and risk calculations.
  • Research toxicological data and information to support human health and ecological risk assessments.
  • Support the project teams by providing risk communication expertise for fact sheets and public meetings.
  • Prepare risk assessment reports and provide senior technical review of reports, including providing input for cost-effective risk-based closure strategies.
  • Provide senior technical review for EPA Region 1 on risk assessment and remedial action reports (workplans, vapor intrusion design documents, pre-design investigations, quality assurance project plans) submitted by responsible parties/settling defendants for federal Superfund Sites, attend project meetings, and provide guidance to EPA on risk-related issues.
  • Work cooperatively with EPA in the preparation of records of decision, explanations of significant differences, five-year review reports, and other EPA-led documents for EPA Superfund Sites.
  • Cultivate/nuture junior technical staff to increase expertise in supporting and/or leading risk assessment efforts under the Massachusetts Contingency Plan (MCP) and similar state-governed environmental response programs.
  • Provide subject matter expertise for non-standard chemical exposure scenarios supporting TRC’s safety program, hazardous building materials, and non-routine chemical exposures.
  • Communicate and coordinate with agencies for risk assessment-related activities.
Qualifications
  • PhD in environmental toxicology.
  • A minimum of 30-35 years of experience in report preparation activities including performing risk assessments and related reports (exposure assessments, toxicological assessments).
  • Must have a strong understanding and working knowledge of state and federal regulations including, but not limited to, the Massachusetts Contingency Plan (MCP), Maine Remedial Action Guidelines (RAGs), and Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation and Liability Act (CERCLA) guidance.
  • Strong ability to organize and evaluate scientific data.
  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong ability to prioritize and perform multiple work assignments simultaneously and efficiently, and to prepare clear and concise reports, correspondence, and other written materials.
  • A desire to mentor mid- and entry-level staff in the field of risk assessment and state/federal risk assessment regulations and guidance.

Compensation: In accordance with local law, the below salary range is applicable for the job and location associated with this requisition. Compensation will vary based upon experience, education, skill level, geographical location, and other compensable factors.

Other Compensation:Employee may be eligible for participation in the Company’s annual Discretionary Bonus Program which is contingent on Company, Business Segment, and Individual performance against Key Performance Indicators which vary by year and employee.
