Position Overview

The Right-of-Way Agent is responsible for researching, coordinating, and managing right-of-way and utility activities for telecommunications and power construction projects. This position works with property owners, municipalities, government agencies, utilities, and project teams to research property and utility information and obtain the necessary rights, easements, and approvals required for construction.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform right-of-way and utility research to identify property ownership, right-of-way limits, easements, utility facilities, and existing utility rights.
  • Research county, municipal, state, and other public records to verify property and right-of-way information.
  • Research existing utility infrastructure, utility owners, and available utility records.
  • Review plats, deeds, easements, utility maps, and engineering plans.
  • Coordinate acquisition of easements and other right-of-way agreements.
  • Communicate with property owners, utility companies, municipalities, and government agencies regarding project requirements.
  • Review plans and drawings to identify right-of-way and utility impacts and potential conflicts.
  • Coordinate with engineering, survey, construction, permitting, and utility coordination teams.
  • Follow up with jurisdictions, utility companies, and property owners to obtain approvals and resolve issues.
  • Track the status of right-of-way requests, utility research, easements, and outstanding items.
  • Assist with resolving property, utility, access, and construction-related right-of-way issues.
  • Maintain accurate project records and provide regular status updates to project management.
  • Support project schedules by identifying and addressing right-of-way and utility issues that could delay construction.
  • Ensure right-of-way and utility activities comply with applicable federal, state, and local requirements.
  • Preferred Experience
  • Telecommunications or fiber-optic engineering and construction experience.
  • Experience performing right-of-way and utility research for fiber or utility projects.
  • Experience working with municipalities, counties, DOT, turnpikes, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and other government agencies.
  • Experience researching easements, property ownership, and utility facilities.
  • Previous experience coordinating easements and property-owner agreements.
  • Education: Associate or a bachelor’s degree preferably in any STEM discipline.
  • Experience:
    • 5+ years of experience.
    • Experience in engineering, power, or construction industries is a plus.
  • Skills:
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams).
    • Expertise in Microsoft Excel is a plus.
    • Strong document control and organizational skills.
