Job summary

BAE Systems, Inc. is seeking a skilled Rigger for our Ship Repair team in San Diego to ensure safe lifting operations and reliable rigging setup. You will work closely with crane operators and crew to move heavy loads, inspect gear, and maintain records.

Qualifications include 3–5 years in shipyard rigging, OSHA rigging certification, and ability to read load charts. A high school diploma or GED is preferred, with technical rigging training considered a plus.

Qualifications

  • 3-5 years of experience in rigging in the Shipyard environment.
  • OSHA certification in rigging required.
  • Qualified Signal Person Certificate or similar is a plus.
  • Strong understanding of rigging equipment and safe lifting techniques.
  • Ability to read load charts and rigging plans.
  • Physical ability to lift heavy loads and work at heights.
  • High school diploma or GED preferred; technical rigging training is a plus.

Right now, we are looking for a Rigger to join our Ship Repair team to help keep the U.S. Navy's vessels mission-ready.

As a Rigger, You Will
  • Set up and inspect rigging equipment such as slings, shackles, chains, and cables.
  • Assist in lifting and moving heavy materials and equipment using cranes, hoists, and other lifting devices.
  • Ensure the proper and safe attachment of loads to lifting equipment.
  • Communicate with crane operators to direct and guide load movements safely.
  • Dismantle and store rigging equipment after operations are completed.
Safety and Compliance
  • Follow safety guidelines and procedures for all rigging activities, including OSHA regulations.
  • Conduct regular inspections of rigging gear to ensure safety and functionality.
  • Identify potential hazards and take corrective actions to mitigate risks.
  • Participate in safety briefings and training sessions related to rigging operations.
Collaboration
  • Work closely with crane operators and other team members to coordinate and execute lifting operations.
  • Communicate clearly during lifting operations to ensure safety and efficiency.
  • Assist other personnel as needed with manual labor tasks when rigging duties are not required.
Documentation
  • Maintain accurate records of rigging equipment used in operations.
  • Report any equipment malfunctions, damage, or required repairs to supervisors.
Required Education, Experience, & Skills
  • 3-5 years of experience in rigging in the Shipyard environment

Pay Information

Full-Time Salary Range: $61360 - $93662

Please note: This range is based on our market pay structures. However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
