Job summary

BAE Systems, Inc. in Jacksonville, FL is seeking a Safety Tech II to inspect work areas aboard sea going vessels, piers, docks and buildings, and to document findings for subcontractors and customers.

The role focuses on compliance with safety regulations, identifying hazards, and supporting life safety, PPE, fall protection, fire prevention, and related safety programs across the shipyard.

Qualifications

  • Requires a High School diploma or equivalent and one year of related safety experience.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with employees, management, customers, subcontractors and regulatory agencies.
  • Able to support evaluations and testing in various environments including noise, illumination, atmospheric conditions, and ensuring proper working environments are established.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and able to work with industry specific software; able to maintain databases and write reports.
  • Capable of working in physically demanding environments and weather conditions; valid driver's license and ability to obtain a government access badge.

The BAE Systems site in Jacksonville, Florida is hiring for a Safety Tech II to support at its Maritime Solutions shipyard.


In this position as a Safety Tech, you will be responsible to:



  • Perform daily inspections of various work areas including sea going vessels, piers, docks and buildings.

  • Document inspections and communicate safety and health findings with subcontractors and customers on a daily basis.

  • Ensure compliance with safety / health regulations, company policies and procedures, consensus standards, and customer requirements.

  • Identify and facilitate corrections of potential hazards, hazards and infractions, or ceasing operations until corrected.

  • Support the following areas of concern: life and safety codes, safe work practices, personal protective equipment usage, walking & working surfaces, hot work, slips, trips, fall protections, fire prevention, housekeeping, confined and enclosed space entry, hazard communication standards and Global Harmonizing System, electrical safety, portable power usage, machine guarding, etc.


Required Education, Experience, & Skills


  • Typically requires a High School diploma, or the equivalent, and one year of related safety experience.

  • Ability to effectively communicate and interact with employees, management, customers, subcontractors and regulatory agencies.

  • Able to support evaluations and testing in various environments including but not limited to noise, illumination, atmospheric conditions (confined spaces), and ensuring proper working environments are established and maintained.

  • Computer skills including Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint) and ability to work with industry specific software. Able to populate and maintain department databases, archive, write reports, maintain files, etc.

  • Capable of working in a variety of physically demanding environments and weather conditions including climbing, bending, crawling, working at heights, inside of enclosed and confined spaces, heat, rain, wind, etc.

  • Must possess a valid driver's license and be able to acquire and maintain a government access badge.


Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills


  • Prefer certifications in OSHA Maritime Safety Training (10 or 30 hour), OSHA 3095 Electrical Standards, OSHA 3115 Fall Protection, OSHA 5410 Occupational Safety and Health Standards for the Maritime Industry, and/or OSHA 521 Guide to Industrial Hygiene.

  • Maritime experience preferred, but not required.

  • Shipyard Competent Person certificate.


Pay Information

Full-Time Salary Range: $43285 - $69256


Please note: This range is based on our market pay structures. However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
