Description

The faculty physician is responsible for the care of patients in the hospital and clinics, as well as research, educational, and advocacy initiatives as determined by the Division Chief and/or the Center leadership.

Qualifications

Minimum Education
Medical Doctor (M.D.) from an accredited medical school (Required)

Minimum Work Experience

Required Skills/Knowledge

Knowledge of current principles, methods, and procedures for medical evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment in the area of expertise. Knowledge of legal and ethical standards for medical care. Ability to evaluate patient problems independently and develop care plans. Ability to incorporate ethical concepts into patient care and discuss these with patients, families, and healthcare team members. Ability to supervise and train clinical professionals and students. Commitment to maintaining quality, safety, and infection control standards. Demonstrates ongoing medical education and awareness of developments in subspecialty. Knowledge of and compliance with legal and ethical standards for medical care.

Required Licenses and Certifications

Licensed and credentialed attending physician at Children's National Medical Center. Board certified or eligible in primary specialty. Board certification in secondary specialty preferred.

  • Participate in on-call services as determined.
  • Communicate professionally with families and healthcare teams, referring to specialists as needed.
  • Utilize chain of command and escalation policies appropriately.
  • Respond promptly to team and external provider communications, setting clear expectations and encouraging questions.

  • Participate in advocacy initiatives and contribute to public policy efforts for pediatric health.
  • Educate patients and families on health topics and participate in health promotion programs.

Commitment to Research

  • Conduct scientifically valuable research in relevant clinical and translational areas.
  • Review manuscripts, publish in peer-reviewed journals, and seek research funding.
  • Engage in research committees and interest groups.

Commitment to Education

  • Participate in medical education programs, supervise trainees, and contribute to hospital and national educational efforts.
  • Provide feedback and ensure proper orientation for trainees.

Commitment to Quality & Compliance

  • Follow policies, procedures, and quality improvement standards.
  • Complete clinical documentation accurately and promptly.
  • Identify service problems and recommend improvements.
  • Participate in policy development and peer review, and report errors.
