Job summary

A telecommunications provider in Guam is seeking an RF Technician Apprentice to support experienced technicians in the setup, testing, and maintenance of wireless communication equipment. Responsibilities include assisting with installations, inventory management, and documenting work performed. Job description

Tamuning, Guam IT&E - Isla Telecommunications & Energy

As an RF Technician Apprentice, youll be learning and assisting with the setup, testing, and maintenance of wireless communication equipment. Your role is to support experienced technicians and engineers while building hands‑on skills in the field.

Responsibilities

The Employee will:

  • Assist with Installations & Maintenance Help set up and maintain wireless network equipment, antennas, repeaters, and transmission systems under supervision.
  • Support with Backhaul & Power Systems Learn to install and maintain supporting equipment such as AC/DC power units and cabling.
  • Learn Electrical/Electronic Work Practice basic wiring, assembly, and equipment testing using hand and power tools while guided by senior technicians.
  • Observe & Inspect Help check equipment for hazards, defects, or needed repairs, and report findings to supervisors.
  • Troubleshooting Support Assist in logging and closing trouble tickets, and shadow senior staff during customer complaint resolution.
  • Testing & Site Work Join in site acceptance tests, signal checks, and coverage surveys to understand how performance is measured and optimized.
  • Inventory & Spares Help track equipment, manage spare parts, and prepare defective items for return/repair (RMA).
  • Documentation Keep simple records of work performed, inventory updates, and equipment usage.
  • Team Collaboration Work alongside other departments, vendors, and contractors when directed by a supervisor.
  • Other Duties Carry out additional tasks as assigned while learning to become a fully qualified RF Technician.

Required Qualifications, Capabilities, And Skills

  • Must provide a High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Must be a US citizen or resident alien.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age or older.
  • Must be a resident of Guam for a period not less than three (3) consecutive years before entry into the program.
  • Mayors Verification must be submitted upon hire.
  • Must be able to attend a minimum of two (2) classes per semester as identified by program coordinator, while working forty (40) hours per week with IT&E.

Preferred Qualifications, Capabilities, And Skills

  • Guam Driver's License
  • Experience in the wireless technical operations and/or engineering aspects of telecommunications is preferred but not required.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to perform the essential functions of this job successfully. The physical activity of this position includes, picking, pinching, typing or otherwise working, primarily with fingers rather than with whole hand or arm as in handling, repetitive movements making substantial movements of the wrist, hands, and/or fingers, grasping, feeling, Talking-Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. Hearing: Perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction, repetitive motions.

The physical requirements of this position involve Light work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for Sedentary Work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for Light Work. Medium work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Heavy work: Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

The worker is required to have visual acuity to perform an activity such as: operating machines such as lathes, drill presses, power saws and mills where the seeing job is at or within arms reach; performing mechanical or skilled trades tasks of a non-repetitive nature such as ones by carpenters, technicians, service people, plumbers, painters, mechanics, etc. The worker is required to have visual acuity to operate motor vehicles or heavy equipment. The worker is required to have visual acuity to determine the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned (i.e., custodial, food services, general labor, etc.) or to make general observations of facilities or structures (i.e., security guard, inspection, etc.).

Working Conditions

The worker is subject to both environmental conditions: Activities occur inside and outside. The worker is subject to hazards: Includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, exposure to high heat or exposure to chemicals. The worker is subject to atmospheric conditions: One or more of the following conditions that affect the respiratory system of the skin: Fumes, odors, dusts, mists, gases or poor ventilation. The worker frequently is in close quarters, crawl spaces, shafts, man holes, small enclosed rooms, small sewage and water line pipes, and other areas which could cause claustrophobia. The worker is required to function in narrow aisles or passageways.

Formerly Micronesian Telecommunications Corp, IT&E was a part of Verizon International. CITADEL acquired IT&E in 2005 after successfully navigating the US CIFUS process and the Federal Communications Commission. In 2006, a partnership was established with Sumitomo Corporation, one of Japans largest trading houses, which invested in the company as part of its telecommunications push. The company acquired IT&E in Guam, and together, became the largest wireless provider in Micronesia. The entire company was renamed IT&E.
