Job summary

CITADEL is seeking a Construction Technician to support the Broadband Equity Access and Deployment (BEAD Project) in the Northern Mariana Islands. This temporary role runs for at least one year or until project completion, under the Outside Plant Supervisor's guidance.

The technician will install and maintain island-wide external plant, including digging, fiber/cable lines, microducts, handholes, and conduits, with duties extending to vegetation clearance and fiber blowing assistance.

Qualifications

  • Driver's license and ability to obtain/maintain a valid chauffeurs license.
  • Two years of relevant construction work experience required.

Job description

This is a temporary position to support the Broadband Equity Access and Deployment(BEAD Project). This position is a minimum of one year or until the completion of the BEAD Project. Under the supervision of the Outside Plant Supervisor, the Construction Technician is responsible for the island-wide external plant maintenance and extensions. This involves digging, installation, securing fiber/cable lines, microducts, handholes, and conduits and clearing vegetation. The extension of the outside requires the running of new cable lines (fiber/copper) and hardware, handholes.

Responsibilities

The Employee will:

  • Install and run new cable lines, microducts, and conduits for both underground and cable plants which would involve the digging of groundwork.
  • Install handholes.
  • Assist in fiber blowing activities.
  • Secure fiber lines, cable lines and hardware.
  • Clear vegetation encroaching on cable lines and equipment.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications, Capabilities, And Skills
  • High school diploma or equivalent, such as a GED.
  • Drivers license & ability to obtain and maintain a valid chauffeurs license.
  • Two (2) years of relevant work experience in construction work is required.

Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the minimumknowledge abilities and skills.

Must be able to work in the following conditions
  • Primarily daytime work schedule but may be required to work nights, weekends andholidays
  • Occasional work in an enclosed area lacking windows
  • Occasional Indoor work exposed to indoor conditions, dust, noise dirt, hat, poorlighting, etc.
  • Occasional Outdoor work exposed to different outdoor weather conditions (heat,rain, wind, etc.)

  • Must successfully pass background check (pre and post-employment)
  • Must successfully pass an alcohol and drug screening (pre and post-employment)
  • Regular, consistent and punctual attendance.

Hearing:Perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction,repetitive motions.

The physical requirements of this position involve Heavy work: Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

The worker is required to have visual acuity to perform an activity such as: operatingmachines such as lathes, drill presses, power saws and mills where the seeing job is at orwithin arms reach; performing mechanical or skilled trades tasks of a non-repetitive naturesuch as ones by carpenters, technicians, service people, plumbers, painters, mechanics,
etc.

Working Conditions

The worker is subject to both environmental conditions, the worker is subject to extreme heat: Temperatures above 100 degrees for periods of more than one hour. Considerations should be given to the effect of other environmental conditions such as wind and humidity. The worker is subject to noise: There is sufficient noise to cause the worker to shout in order to be heard above the ambient noise level. The worker is subject to vibration: Exposure to oscillating movements of the extremities or whole body. The worker is subject to hazards: Includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, exposure to high heat or exposure to chemicals. The worker is subject to atmospheric conditions: One or more of the following conditions that affect the respiratory system of the skin: Fumes, odors, dusts, mists, gases or poor ventilation. The worker is subject to oils: There is air and/or skin exposure to oils and other cutting fluids. The worker frequently is in close quarters, crawl spaces, shafts, manholes, small, enclosed rooms, small sewage and water line pipes, and other areas which could cause claustrophobia. The worker is required to function in narrow aisles or passageways.
