Job summary

Commonwealth Fusion Systems is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to own the RF heating mechanical architecture and integrate large-scale components from concept through plant deployment. You will design coax transmission paths, cooling interfaces, and structural supports while working with RF, electronics, and process engineers in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or related field.
• 5+ years of hands-on mechanical design in industrial, heavy machinery, high-power electronics, EV, or aerospace environments.
• Demonstrated experience as the primary creator and owner of mechanical design architectures.
• Direct experience performing structural loads and thermal analyses to validate mechanical designs.
• High proficiency in 3D CAD software and GD&T for manufacturing drawings.
• Strong understanding of heat transfer, structural mechanics, and fluid dynamics.

Responsibilities

• Design specialized RF Heating plant components with RF Engineers, including large-diameter coax lines and tuners.
• Decompose system requirements into mechanical specifications and own the designs.
• Collaborate with a CAD drafting team and drive detailed drawings and releases.
• Partner with RF, electronics, process, and other engineers across disciplines.
• Architect thermal management by integrating water/air cooling in enclosures and plant systems.
• Develop large sheet metal components and precise mounting hardware for PCBs and assemblies.
• Perform structural and thermal analyses to ensure design viability.
