Job summary

Tiposi, a Silicon Valley medical device startup, seeks an RF Systems Engineer to define, design, and optimize RF subsystems for a breakthrough imaging device.

You will develop RF architectures, calibrate systems, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to advance non-invasive imaging technology, with a contract-to-hire path toward full-time employment.

Qualifications

  • MS or PhD in Electrical Engineering or related field required.
  • 2–5 years hands-on RF systems engineering experience.
  • Strong knowledge of EM theory, antennas, RF propagation, calibration, and link budgets.
  • Experience with RF simulation tools (ADS/HFSS/CST/MATLAB).
  • Analytical skills and ability to diagnose RF issues, plus good communication.
  • Ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams.

Job description

Tiposi is a Silicon Valley medical device startup developing AI-powered, microwave-based brain imaging technology — built to detect strokes and expand access to brain health screening worldwide. We combine RF innovation, custom ASICs, and machine learning to make imaging faster, safer, and more accessible than ever before.

What You’ll Do

As an RF Systems Engineer, you will play a critical role in defining, designing, and optimizing the RF subsystems that power our breakthrough imaging device. Working closely with cross-functional engineering teams, you will develop RF system architectures, optimize system performance, and help advance the next generation of non‑invasive imaging technology.

Responsibilities
  • Define RF system specifications, develop link budgets, and establish performance requirements for the overall RF system.
  • Collaborate with the engineering team to develop and optimize RF system architecture, calibration strategies, and subsystem integration. Allocate performance requirements across antennas, receivers, transmitters, filters, amplifiers, and other RF components.
  • Partner with external antenna vendors to review electromagnetic and wave propagation analyses, evaluate antenna performance, investigate RF-related issues, and oversee antenna characterization and anechoic chamber testing.
  • Analyze RF system performance, identify the root causes of signal degradation and system limitations, and drive system‑level improvements through design optimization and calibration.
  • Collaborate closely with DSP, AI, hardware, and software engineers to ensure the RF subsystem delivers high-quality data for accurate image reconstruction and diagnostic performance.
  • Drive technical innovation and contribute to product development in a fast‑paced, collaborative startup environment.
What We’re Looking For
  • M.S. or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Physics, or a related field.
  • 2–5 years of hands‑on experience in RF systems engineering, RF subsystem development, or system integration.
  • Strong understanding of electromagnetic theory, antenna systems, RF propagation, RF calibration, link budget analysis, and RF signal analysis.
  • Experience with RF simulation and modeling tools such as ADS, HFSS, CST Studio Suite, MATLAB, or equivalent.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to diagnose and resolve complex RF system issues.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across multidisciplinary engineering teams.
Bonus Points For
  • Experience supporting overseas production or manufacturing transfer
  • Wideband RF or microwave imaging experience
  • Familiarity with medical device development or regulatory environments

A note about our compensation structure:

Currently, this role begins with a 3–6 month contract‑to‑hire phase at $5K–$9K/month as a 1099 contractor, followed by transition into a full‑time W-2 position and expanded compensation.
