Job description

About Tiposi

Tiposi is a Silicon Valley medical device startup developing AI-powered, microwave-based brain imaging technology — built to detect strokes and expand access to brain health screening worldwide. We combine RF innovation, custom hardware, and machine learning to make imaging faster, safer, and more accessible than ever before.

Software Engineer – Full Stack (Associate / Junior)
Location

On-site, with lab and manufacturing-floor access

Level

Associate / Junior (1–3 years of experience, or a strong new graduate with relevant project or internship experience)

About the Role

Tiposi is building a portable microwave-imaging helmet for point-of-care brain scanning. Our software stack has been developed over approximately five years and spans multiple codebases, including the RF scan engine, on-device Flask server and web UI, Flutter tablet application used by operators, and the data pipeline that sends scan data to our cloud AI systems.

In this role, you will help keep that software stack healthy, reliable, and moving forward. You will read and work within existing codebases, reproduce and fix bugs, implement well-scoped features, and support the lab, manufacturing floor, and clinical sites when software issues arise.

Architecture decisions, hardware protocol changes, and imaging algorithms are owned by senior engineers and specialized teams. You will work within those established boundaries while learning the systems through hands‑on development, debugging, hardware interaction, and real‑world device deployment.

Responsibilities
  • Diagnose and fix bugs across the software stack, from technician, clinician, or Jira reports through reproduction, root‑cause analysis, implementation, and hardware verification
  • Use device emulators and real hardware to reproduce software issues and determine which system layer is responsible
  • Implement well‑scoped features defined with senior engineers, such as diagnostic pages, API fields, tablet settings, database columns, and migrations
  • Navigate and modify large, organically developed codebases, including modules with thousands of lines of code and limited documentation
  • Perform hardware‑in‑the‑loop verification using device emulators, physical devices, and manufacturing test procedures
  • Support engineering lab and manufacturing‑floor troubleshooting
  • Help determine whether device issues originate from software, firmware, antennas, hardware, or another subsystem and elevate with clear, reproducible documentation when appropriate
  • Improve code quality incrementally by adding tests, documentation, logging, and other maintainability improvements to the areas you work on
  • Build and package device software using tools such as PyInstaller and Docker
  • Build Android application releases and assist with firmware and application updates across deployed devices
  • Support software installation, deployment, troubleshooting, and verification at clinical, manufacturing, and partner sites when required
  • Write clear bug reports, verification notes, technical documentation, and engineering hand‑offs
  • Collaborate with senior software, hardware, firmware, signal‑processing, manufacturing, and clinical teams
  • Travel internationally as needed to support device deployments, manufacturing operations, clinical sites, technical troubleshooting, and other engineering needs
Requirements
  • 1–3 years of software engineering experience, or strong new graduate experience through relevant internships, academic projects, or technical work
  • Strong Python fundamentals and the ability to confidently read, debug, and modify large existing Python modules
  • Experience using debuggers, stack traces, logs, and other tools to systematically isolate software problems
  • Strong ability to navigate unfamiliar codebases and understand code you did not originally write
  • Basic SQL skills and a working understanding of relational databases, including joins, indexes, migrations, and basic query‑performance concepts
  • Git fluency and good pull‑request practices, including small commits, clear commit messages, and responsiveness to code review
  • Careful and methodical debugging skills, with an emphasis on identifying root causes and clearly documenting what has and has not been verified
  • Willingness to work directly with physical hardware in a lab and manufacturing environment
  • Comfortable troubleshooting devices, power‑cycling equipment, and performing hardware‑based verification
  • Clear written English for bug reports, technical documentation, and engineering hand‑offs
  • Willingness and ability to travel internationally as needed
Preferred Programming Languages
  • Python
  • Dart (Flutter)
  • JavaScript
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Flask or another Python web framework
  • Familiarity with REST APIs and Swagger/OpenAPI
  • Experience with Flutter/Dart or another mobile application framework
  • Familiarity with MQTT, WebSockets, or other real‑time messaging technologies
  • Experience using NumPy or pandas to inspect or analyze time‑series or sensor data
  • Frontend development experience with JavaScript, Bootstrap, Vue, or similar technologies
  • Experience with Docker and containerized development workflows
  • Familiarity with AWS services such as S3 or RDS
  • Exposure to CI/CD pipelines and software release processes
  • Experience with healthcare, regulated software, medical devices, or health‑tech startups
Role Scope

This is an Associate / Junior engineering position. You will work closely with senior engineers and specialized technical teams.

You will not initially be expected to:

  • Design or modify binary hardware protocols, packet framing, FPGA interfaces, MCU register maps, or other low‑level device communication architecture
  • Develop or modify imaging algorithms such as DAS beamforming, calibration, filter design, or signal‑quality metrics
  • Make major architecture or database‑design decisions independently
  • Own an entire software repository or system end to end
  • Provide independent on‑call support for production clinical sites during your first months
Compensation Structure

This role begins with a 3–6 month contract phase at $3,000–$6,000 per month, based on experience and qualifications, to establish mutual fit.

Upon conversion to full‑time employment, the anticipated salary range is $80,000–$110,000 per year, plus equity, based on experience, qualifications, and performance.

Full‑time benefits include medical, dental, and vision insurance , as well as eligibility for performance bonuses.
