Job summary

Obsidian Solutions Group LLC in Virginia is seeking an RF Spectrum Engineer to install and maintain RF systems at Department of State facilities. You will build, configure, and test RF equipment, manage hardware/software configuration changes, and support all project phases from pre-installation to post-installation, including ESSRs and reports.

The role leads travel planning, coordinates with teams, and develops deployment plans.

Qualifications

  • Active Top Secret clearance with SCI eligibility.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain security clearance.
  • Bachelor's degree in Electronics Engineering or IT related field preferred.
  • Minimum seven years RF research, development, or testing experience.
  • Prior experience as an electrician or installer of technical security equipment.
  • Experience managing projects with supervisory responsibilities.
  • Experience with budgetary operations is a plus.
  • MS Project, Visio, AutoCAD and Office proficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Install and maintain RF systems across DoS facilities.
  • Build, configure and test RF equipment to ensure functionality.
  • Manage hardware and software configuration changes for interoperability.
  • Support all phases of RF systems from pre-installation to post-installation.
  • Coordinate travel, ECC and other travel documents; prepare ESSRs and reports.
  • Conduct surveys for new installations and develop deployment plans and schedules.

The role provides technical support for all phases of RF systems—including pre-installation, installation, and post installation—and coordinates all reporting, including pre- and post-trip reports and Engineering Security Services Reports (ESSRs).

Description

The RF Spectrum Engineer is responsible for the installation and lifecycle maintenance of RF systems at Department of State facilities for the Bureau of Diplomatic Security, Offices of Security Technology (ST) and Technology Innovation and Engineering (TIE). The engineer builds and configures RF systems, tests equipment to ensure functionality, and manages hardware and software configuration changes to ensure interoperability of highly technical equipment. The role provides technical support for all phases of RF systems—including pre-installation, installation, and post installation—and coordinates all reporting, including pre- and post-trip reports and Engineering Security Services Reports (ESSRs). The RF Spectrum Engineer III serves as the team lead, coordinating travel, ECC, and other travel documents, and assists in identifying and developing equipment upgrades and platform replacements. Additional responsibilities include performing surveys for new installations at existing facilities, developing and administering user training for multiple existing and new systems, configuring laptops, and assisting with the development and maintenance of deployment plans and schedules. The engineer is responsible for working with data throughout its lifecycle, including collection, management, analysis, reporting, and secure disposition, to support technical and operational requirements.

Requirements
Required Qualifications
  • Current U.S. Government final Top Secret clearance with SCI eligibility.
  • Eligible for and able to obtain and maintain required security clearance/access approvals.
  • High school diploma or GED required; Bachelor’s degree in Electronics Engineering or IT related field highly desired.
  • Minimum of seven years of experience in RF research, development, or testing.
  • Prior experience as an electrician or installer of technical security equipment.
  • Knowledge of State Department Managing Projects methodology.
  • Prior experience as a project manager with supervisory responsibilities.
  • Prior experience working with budgetary operations is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Project, Visio, and AutoCAD highly desired.
  • Intermediate skills using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Demonstrated experience working with data throughout its lifecycle, including collection, management, analysis, reporting, and secure disposition.
  • Demonstrated good attitude and ability to work as a leader and as a member of a team.
  • Ability to multi-task efficiently, work in a fast-paced environment on multiple projects and maintain strong attention to detail.
Travel
  • 25-50% CONUS and OCONUS travel may be required for program coordination.

Required to travel OCONUS to conduct installation, training, or maintenance at diplomatic facilities.

OCONUS travel may include critical threat locations around the world with austere living conditions.

Domestic travel may be required for training and program coordination
