Job summary

Vosper Thornycroft Group seeks a Senior RF Systems Engineer to support full life-cycle RF processing systems from design to sustainment. The role includes field work, site surveys, installation, troubleshooting, and collaboration with stakeholders to meet mission requirements.

Candidate must be a US citizen with TS/SCI with Poly, hold a relevant engineering degree, and have 5+ years in systems engineering with RF, EMI testing, and coding in Python/Visual Basic.

Qualifications

  • US Citizen with TS/SCI with Poly required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical discipline.
  • A minimum of five years of professional systems engineering experience.
  • Experience with RF spectrum analyzers, oscilloscopes, signal generators, and network analyzers.
  • Experience with RF theory, EMI testing, and unintended emissions within HF/VHF/UHF spectrum.
  • Experience with RF components: amplifiers, filters, isolators, attenuators, terminators.
  • Experience coding applications using Python and Visual Basic.
  • Experience formulating and documenting test plans and technical reports.
  • Experience reviewing system and component technical performance requirements.
  • Experience performing site surveys or planning and executing system installations.
  • Experience troubleshooting networks, hardware, and software configurations.
  • Working knowledge of Linux.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Visio.
  • Familiarity with system design and testing.
  • Familiarity with customer Government Off-the-Shelf software capabilities.
  • Ability to safely use hand tools and power tools.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work as part of a team or lead small team projects.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally for extended periods.

Job description

Overview

This position will support a mission-focused customer throughout the full life cycle of a Radio Frequency Processing System, including system design, integration, testing, installation, troubleshooting, operations, and sustainment.

The Senior Systems Engineer (RF) will work in both laboratory and field environments to evaluate RF system performance, perform site surveys, support system installations, troubleshoot hardware and software issues, and verify compliance with Electromagnetic Environmental Effects requirements. The successful candidate must be comfortable working independently or leading small technical teams and traveling within and outside the continental United States for extended periods.

This role is based in Fort Meade, Maryland.

Eligible candidates may receive a sign-on bonus of up to $10,000, making this an exceptional opportunity to join a mission-critical team supporting national security initiatives.

What will you do?
  • Apply systems engineering principles throughout the system life cycle.
  • Perform site surveys and plan and execute system installations.
  • Operate RF spectrum analyzers, network analyzers, oscilloscopes, and signal generators.
  • Apply RF theoretical and academic knowledge to EMI testing of unintended emissions within the HF, VHF, and UHF spectrum.
  • Work with RF components, including amplifiers, filters, isolators, attenuators, and terminators.
  • Troubleshoot networks, hardware, software configurations, and system issues.
  • Develop applications using Python and Visual Basic.
  • Formulate, document, and execute test plans.
  • Draft and issue technical recommendations through formal test reports.
  • Specify and review system and component technical performance requirements to ensure optimal functionality while meeting E3 noise electric-field limits.
  • Collaborate with internal and external agency stakeholders to ensure technical support meets E3 Program and customer mission requirements.
  • Support system design and testing activities.
  • Work with customer Government Off-the-Shelf software capabilities.
  • Use Linux systems to support testing, troubleshooting, and system operations.
  • Use Microsoft Word, Excel, and Visio for documentation and communication.
  • Use hand tools and power tools to support system installation and maintenance activities.
  • Work independently, as part of a team, or lead small team projects.
  • Adapt to unexpected technical and operational challenges.
  • Support project portfolio management, infrastructure management, life-cycle model management, human resource management, and quality management activities.
  • Support acquisition and supply activities.
  • Travel CONUS and OCONUS for up to three to four weeks at a time.
  • Travel approximately three times per year for seven to ten days at a time.

VTG’s estimated starting pay range is $200K - $240K annually, which is a general guideline for the geographic location. When extending an offer, VTG also considers work experience, education, skill level, market considerations and may possibly include contractual requirements which may cause an offer to fall outside of this range.
