Job summary

The National Radio Astronomy Observatory (NRAO) seeks a Microassembly Technician to join the Integrated Receiver Development group in Charlottesville, VA. This full-time role involves assembling, testing, and validating low-noise receiver modules using advanced microassembly techniques.

You will work with engineers and scientists, handling bare dies, wire bonding, soldering, and cryogenic test setups, contributing to ngVLA receiver development efforts.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Obtain quotes and order parts for receiver modules from design.
  • Organize and maintain stock of components and custom parts.
  • Interface with in-house machine shop and chemistry lab for fabrication.
  • Populate boards with SMD components (0402) and assemble multichip modules.
  • Test receiver modules using VNAs, spectrum analyzers and power meters.
  • Record test data, procedures and results with detailed documentation.
  • Monitor and maintain lab inventory of components and test equipment.
  • Collaborate with engineers to refine assembly and testing procedures.
