Job summary

Type One Energy, in the United States, seeks an RF Engineer-Microwave & Quasi-Optics to join the Electron Cyclotron Heating team. You will design a quasi-optical transmission line and deliver high‑power millimeter‑wave beams from gyrotron sources to the plasma vessel, collaborating with physicists and engineers across disciplines.

You’ll perform Gaussian beam optics analysis, run EM simulations, coordinate fabrication, and conduct bench measurements; this is a hands‑on role with growth potential

Qualifications

  • Doctoral or master's degree in EE, physics or closely related field.
  • Experience in microwave or millimeter-wave engineering and RF components.
  • Knowledge of Gaussian beam optics and millimeter-wave propagation.
  • Proficiency with EM/multi-physics tools CST, HFSS, COMSOL.
  • Hands-on microwave measurement techniques and lab instrumentation.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and collaborative skills.
  • Willingness to learn across multiple disciplines.

Responsibilities

  • Lead design of QO transmission line components for high‑power millimeter‑wave delivery.
  • Perform Gaussian beam optics analysis and diffraction simulations.
  • Model performance with CST/HFSS/COMSOL and validate against requirements.
  • Coordinate fabrication with machinists, vendors, and metrology teams.
  • Conduct low‑power bench measurements and assess beam patterns and polarization.
  • Support high‑power conditioning and commissioning activities.
  • Develop engineering documentation and test procedures.
  • Stay current with QO and millimeter‑wave advances and apply new techniques.
  • Collaborate across thermal, mechanical, and neutronics teams.
