Job description

The Group You'll Be A Part Of

In the Global Products Group, we are dedicated to excellence in the design and engineering of Lam's etch and deposition products. We drive innovation to ensure our cutting-edge solutions help solve the biggest challenges in the semiconductor industry.

The Impact You'll Make

As an RF Engineer at Lam, you play a crucial role in designing, building, and troubleshooting cutting-edge radio frequency (RF) solutions for power delivery and plasma generation in our Etch and Deposition products. You specialize in utilizing RF as a power source and creating innovative generator designs. Your work paves the way for new power sources to be used in Lam's wafer fabrication equipment.

What You'll Do
  • Contribute to research and development efforts for future products and technology by collecting and analyzing data to improve electrical system designs.
  • Perform professional RF electrical engineering research, design, development, modification, and evaluation in support of electrical and electro-mechanical subsystems, embedded systems, and power distribution.
  • Work within a multidisciplinary engineering design team (Firmware, FPGA, Mechanical, Electrical) to specify, design, and modify custom and OEM system components.
  • Collaborate with suppliers to prepare detailed designs, prototype fabrication, testing/verification, and manage production release.
  • Prepare and analyze test plans and procedures to ensure technical and operational requirements are met and can be demonstrated properly.
  • Collect and analyze relevant material and data for presentations at design, project, and program reviews.
  • Lead focused cross-functional teams, initiatives, and serve as a resource and mentor to colleagues.
Who We're Looking For
  • Minimum of 8 years of related experience with a Bachelor's degree; or 6 years with a Master's; or 3 years with a PhD.
  • Primarily responsible for design/selection, testing, and documentation of RF delivery systems.
  • Hands-on experience with complex RF measurement equipment: Power Meters, Network and Spectrum Analyzers, oscilloscopes, field strength meters, etc.
  • Experience with RF/uW generator/source, impedance matching networks, transmission lines, and antennas.
  • Technical experience in the frequency range 100 KHz to 100 MHz, from single Watt to Kilowatt ranges, and high voltage DC delivery.
  • Knowledge of high voltage (>10 KV) and high current (>100 Arms) design rules, including arcing, tracking, heat, and parasitic effects.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Strong analysis and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to drive functional requirements and work effectively in a dynamic team environment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with semiconductor capital equipment or related industrial equipment industry.
  • Familiarity with RF simulation suites: SPICE, ADS, LabView, MathCAD, MatLab, and analysis tools like HFSS, Comsol, Maxwell.
  • Appreciation for understanding challenges and limitations within other disciplines on system designs.
  • Working knowledge of industry standards: SEMI, NFPA79, NEC, UL, EN, IEC, ETG, etc.
