Saltenna's Embedded Systems Engineer will play an instrumental role in the development and implementation of an entirely new scientific approach to communications and sensing in some of the most difficult physical environments on Earth. The platforms developed will use Plasmonics to enable communications well outside the capabilities of all current wireless technologies such as Wi-Fi, radio, acoustics, and optical, and in so doing will open up new capabilities in a vast array of industries and use cases. The applicant will aim to develop Saltenna's embedded systems and internal test/experimental capabilities for a suite of unique products that span both the government and commercial domains.

The embedded systems engineer role will suit an applicant who enjoys complex challenges:

  • Saltenna is a small, rapidly-growing company, so the applicant will get to experience the thrills and challenges of such an environment, as well as the energy of an expanding, changing team.
  • Saltenna is dual-use => engineering for both government and commercial applications.
  • The applicant will interface with many other disciplines as part of a multidisciplinary engineering effort.
  • As the team develops, the applicant will help shape the dynamics and culture of the engineering team.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND BACKGROUND

Saltenna requires the following experience and background for the successful applicant:

  • Ability to obtain a government security clearance.
  • Expertise designing and building embedded systems involving Radiofrequency, Electromagnetic Spectrum (EMS), Software-Defined Radios (SDRs), RF signal processing, and related technologies.
  • Experience designing, shipping, and supporting embedded systems in production, preferably in both government (DOD) and commercial sectors.
  • Experience working with the physical element of embedded systems: power, form factor, and other criteria.
  • Experience building mesh networks of embedded systems.
  • A comparative understanding of embedded systems platforms.
  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing with audiences of diverse backgrounds and disciplines.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE AND BACKGROUND

Saltenna prefers the following experience and background:

  • Cybersecurity expertise with embedded systems used in critical environments such as DOD, IIoT, etc.
  • Experience with noise filtering for RF.
  • Machine Learning (ML) experience, especially reinforcement learning. Ability to deploy reinforcement learning models.
  • Ability to present a professional image for occasional field and customer-facing duties.
  • Ability to conduct PDRs and familiarity with CDRs.
