JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

We are seeking motivated and talented engineers to join our Communications and Signal Processing team in the Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) at Penn State. This position involves researching, designing, developing, integrating, and testing advanced wireless RF communication systems.

This position can be located in State College, PA, Annapolis Junction, MD, or Reston, VA.

You will:

  • Create algorithms and software design
  • Develop C/C++ or equivalent code to interface with hardware (SPI, I2C, etc.)
  • Integrate Software Defined Radio (SDR) hardware/software components
  • Evaluate/develop communication security protocols

Higher level responsibilities include:

  • Leading complex communication projects impacting product design and future technologies
  • Proposing and leading new communication initiatives of national significance
  • Presenting papers, leading symposia, and chairing committees as a recognized leader

This job will be filled at multiple levels depending on the candidate's competencies, education, and experience. A Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Science is minimally required; a Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Computer Science is preferred.

  • Computer Networking
  • Communication protocols (OSI stack, UDP/TCP/IP)
  • Wireless standards (4G/5G, WiFi 802.11)

Preferred experience includes:

  • Software design
  • Signal Processing
  • FPGA development
  • MATLAB/LabVIEW modeling
  • RF principles
  • Embedded software/hardware
  • Wireless/cyber security
  • C programming
