Job summary

Rocket EMS in Carson City, NV is seeking a Rework Technician to modify, repair, or replace PCBAs to meet specs and industry standards. You'll apply soldering skills and rework techniques for both surface-mount and through-hole components.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent; electronics certification preferred.
  • 2+ years PCBA rework/repair experience.
  • Proficient in hand soldering fine-pitch SMT and through-hole components.
  • IPC-A-610 and IPC-7711/7721 certification strongly preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail and manual dexterity.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Work performed in a cleanroom or ESD-controlled area.

  • Rework and repair PCBAs using hand soldering, hot air rework stations, and specialized tools.
  • Remove and replace SMT and through-hole components without damaging the board or surrounding components.
  • Interpret rework instructions, ECOs, and assembly docs such as schematics and work orders.
  • Inspect completed work using magnification and/or X-ray equipment to ensure IPC standards.
  • Troubleshoot defects or component issues in PCBAs and document repairs.
  • Document rework performed and maintain accurate records of repairs.
  • Communicate with engineering, QA, and production on rework requirements or improvements.
  • Follow all ESD, safety, and cleanliness protocols.

Job description

Position Summary

The Rework Technician is responsible for modifying, repairing, or replacing components on printed circuit board assemblies (PCBAs) to meet customer specifications and industry standards. This role requires expertise in soldering, component identification, and rework techniques including both surface-mount and through-hole technologies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform rework and repair of PCBAs using hand soldering, hot air rework stations, and other specialized tools.
  • Remove and replace SMT and through-hole components without damaging the board or surrounding components.
  • Interpret rework instructions, engineering change orders (ECOs), and assembly documentation such as schematics, assembly drawings, and work orders.
  • Inspect completed work using magnification and/or X-ray equipment to ensure quality standards (IPC-A-610, IPC-7711/7721) are met.
  • Troubleshoot and identify defects or component issues in PCBAs, including open circuits, shorts, solder bridges, and misaligned parts.
  • Document rework performed and maintain accurate records of repairs and rework activities.
  • Communicate effectively with engineering, quality assurance, and production teams regarding rework requirements or process improvements.
  • Follow all ESD, safety, and cleanliness protocols in the handling and assembly of electronic components.
Qualifications

  • 2+ years of experience in PCBA rework or repair.
  • Proficiency in hand soldering of fine-pitch SMT and through-hole components.

Pay Range

$25 - $30 USD
