Job description

Description
Job Overview

The Touch-Up Rework Operator is responsible for inspecting, manual soldering, and modifying Printed Circuit. Board Assemblies (PCBAs) to meet stringent quality standards. This role focuses on identifying assembly defects following Surface Mount Technology (SMT) and Through-Hole reflow processes, executing precise component-level rework, and ensuring compliance with IPC standards.

Duties:
  • Perform high-quality hand soldering, de-soldering, and touch-up of both surface mount (SMT) and through-hole components using soldering irons, hot air rework stations, and de-soldering tools.
  • Carefully remove and replace defective or misplaced components including resistors, capacitors, diodes, ICs, and fine-pitch components without damaging surrounding traces or substrates.
  • Correct common assembly anomalies such as solder bridges, insufficient solder, voids, tombstoning, pinholes, and component misalignment.
  • Utilize high-magnification microscopes, optical inspection equipment, and handheld loupes to evaluate solder joints and assembly compliance against engineering drawings.
  • Implement physical board modifications, cut traces, and add jumper wires (dead bugs/wire adds) according to official ECO schematics and documentation.
  • Adhere strictly to IPC-A-610 acceptability standards and class requirements (Class 2 and Class 3) to ensure reliable hardware performance.
  • Maintain full compliance with Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) protective protocols, chemical handling regulations (flux, isopropyl alcohol), and personal protective equipment (PPE) guidelines.
  • Document rework actions taken, failure types, and tracking numbers in the manufacturing execution system (MES) or paper route sheets for yield traceability.
Requirements
  • Minimum 1-2 years of hands-on experience in manual soldering, touch-up, or PCBA rework within an electronics manufacturing environment.
  • Current or previous certification in IPC-A-610 (Acceptability of Electronic Assemblies) or IPC-7711/7721 (Rework, Modification, and Repair of Electronic Assemblies) is highly preferred.
  • Exceptional hand-eye coordination and fine motor skills. Experience operating advanced thermal rework stations, micro-soldering tools, and microscopic inspection equipment.
  • Ability to read and accurately interpret assembly drawings, engineering schematics, bill of materials (BOM), and manufacturing routing procedures.
  • Excellent close-range vision (natural or corrected) with the ability to maintain depth perception and focus under a microscope for extended durations.
  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent technical trade school certificate.
