Job summary

Rocket EMS is seeking a Rework Technician to modify, repair, or replace components on PCBAs to meet customer specifications and IPC standards. This role emphasizes soldering expertise, component identification, and rework techniques for both surface-mount and through-hole technologies.

The position requires 2+ years of PCBA rework/repair experience, a high school diploma or equivalent, and preferred IPC-610/ IPC-7711/7721 certifications.

Responsibilities

• Perform rework/repair of PCBAs using hand soldering, hot air rework stations, and specialized tools.
• Remove and replace SMT and through-hole components without damaging the board or nearby parts.
• Interpret ECOs and assembly docs including schematics and work orders.
• Inspect work with magnification or X-ray to ensure IPC 610/7711/7721 compliance.
• Troubleshoot defects such as opens, shorts, solder bridges, or misaligned parts.
• Document repairs and maintain records of rework activities.
• Communicate rework requirements or process improvements with engineering and QA.

Job description

Position Summary:

The Rework Technician is responsible for modifying, repairing, or replacing components on printed circuit board assemblies (PCBAs) to meet customer specifications and industry standards. This role requires expertise in soldering, component identification, and rework techniques including both surface-mount and through-hole technologies.

Key Responsibilities:

• Perform rework and repair of PCBAs using hand soldering, hot air rework stations, and other specialized tools.
• Remove and replace SMT and through-hole components without damaging the board or surrounding components.
• Interpret rework instructions, engineering change orders (ECOs), and assembly documentation such as schematics, assembly drawings, and work orders.
• Inspect completed work using magnification and/or X-ray equipment to ensure quality standards (IPC-A-610, IPC-7711/7721) are met.
• Troubleshoot and identify defects or component issues in PCBAs, including open circuits, shorts, solder bridges, and misaligned parts.
• Document rework performed and maintain accurate records of repairs and rework activities.
• Communicate effectively with engineering, quality assurance, and production teams regarding rework requirements or process improvements.
• Follow all ESD, safety, and cleanliness protocols in the handling and assembly of electronic components.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent; technical training or certification in electronics preferred.
• 2+ years of experience in PCBA rework or repair.
• Proficiency in hand soldering of fine-pitch SMT and through-hole components.
• IPC-A-610 and IPC-7711/7721 certification strongly preferred.
• Strong attention to detail and manual dexterity.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision in a fast-paced environment.
• Work is performed in a cleanroom or ESD-controlled manufacturing area.
• Requires sitting or standing for extended periods and handling small electronic parts.

Pay Range

$25 - $30 USD
